Over the last few days i have been doing quite a bit of research about engine tuning on the 1.1 sporting engine. Although its left me with quite a few questions.

ECU: Iv been looking at the mckcritch chip, although i noticed the post with the details of the chip is over 2 years old, is it still available and if it is not available what other options are there? Also my ecu for some reason is not the original magnetti marelli one. Wll it still fit/function and if not can i put any original sporting ecu into the car?

Induction: I dont wish to pay £100 for a GSR and found out i could make my own induction kit similair to this with a samco 90 degree reducing hose a piece of straight hose a filter of my choice and a 899cc bob? :S Im assuming this is the plastic cover for the throttle body that the air filter comes out of? Also does anyone know what the mesurements of samco hoseing i would need for this is?

Throttle Body: Also on the forum i found the 40mm tricker throttle bodies but again i dont wish to pay £100 for a throttle body and i recall reading somewhere that you can buy bigger throttle bodies from other fiat models? What is the biggest throttle body you can get and what vechicle is it from?

Cams: Again thanks to the wealth of information on this forum i found out that the punto 75 cams are considered a worth while upgrade for the 1.1 engine. Which exact engine are these from? As i believe there is a 16v 75 engine and 8v 75 engine both of which are 1.2 engines? Also does it matter what age/mk the punto it is coming from is?

Exhaust: Will i see much gains from a cat back system? Also i read that they may push the power further up the rev range which i wouldnt want, is this that case? Would i be better off just sticking with a back box obviously i wont get the same power gains if any but was just wondering if the power gain is worth the money.

Any help on all these subjects is much appreciated. Thanks in advance =]

What year is your car? Then we will know more about the ECU.

Induction, The GSR ones are a definate increase in HP and some filters can actually lose you power Due to sucking in hot air from the top of the engine. If they aren't positioned properly anyway.

As for the throttle body, i'm assuming you have read my post about the fiat brava one. I'll only be able to fit it with modification repositioning the holes and making a shim to fit inside. The brava TB is a 45mm (at the flutter) with a 68mm opening, requiring a bigger induction kit.

As for the cam you have answered your own question, the punto 85 is a 16v engine, and the punto 75 doesn't matter what year has the cam you require :).

Exhaust wise people are always babbling on about janspeed and supersprint which are a pretty penny. If yougo supersprint then save up a bit more and buy a 4 branch manifold.

Alternatively you could pay your local powerflow dealer a visit and have a nice custom system made.

Thanks

I presume you have discussed all this with your underwriter.

Re Cam, you need the one from the 8V, a 16V needs two cams.

Try the search, guides and FAQS, then come back.

My underwriter?
Also dont i feel a bit thick about the 16v needing 2 cams haha.
I have looked threw all the guides and faq's also.

My cars a 98/R Reg.
I just read your thread about the throttle body have you got it finished yet, with an induction kit?
Cheers, Russ

Im in near enough the same position as you :p not on the biggest budget in the world either as im a student. Value for money parts i want...
Yer, im on a pritty tight budget also being a student, most of this work would get done bit by bit =[

Your insurance underwriter, make sure you are aware of the increased costs before spending any money on mods and then finding out you can't afford the increase in insurance.

Ye, i know. Im a good boy me ;) haha. The insurance is the most expensive part =[ haha. Cheers, Russ

Iv also had a read of that and am havin a new engine fitted atm as my other engine died a very smoky hot head gasket related death after the previous owner bodged it (head gasket was blown on almost all seals, there is 2 holes in the head from long term leaking, and we havent even got to look at the piston rings valve seals etc yet so i decided a new engine was the best idea) and i will follow all the step you have mentioned although most of them will have to be completed while the engine is being replaced anyway.

I take it you are fitting a new to you engine, rather than a new engine.

Take some time and rebuild the 'new' engine before refitting. Polish Fiat tolerances are very variable.

I took a low mileage, known history 1108 to bits and the pistons practically fell out.

Not yet, My friend has it now so I should get it back on monday. Then it's a trip over to samco to get a new kit made up using my GSR as an example. My kit is 55mm and I need a 70mm now for the new TB.

Last month of insurance so it will all go on after, but obviously a trial fit and quick test will be in order .

Thanks

Всем привет! Недавно купил Fiat Cinquecento 0.9 i.S. и очень хочу его восстановить. Машина в очень плохом состоянии, не получается быстро восстанавливать, потому что у нас в России есть проблемы с запасными частями на эту машину.
