Hello all
Yesterday my Cinq Sporting engined Uno threw the crank wheel after loosening the centre bolt. This happened at the highway and i had to leave it at a resting area adjacent to the highway. My question now though is if the engine is an interference engine and is completely mashed to bits, or if its as simple as timing and assembling again?
The head has been skimmed 1,1mm and the engine is running an 866 camshaft.

Whether or not it's an interference engine, determines whether me and a mate drive there with simpel tools, or if we need to being an auto trailer.

Thank you all in advance

Hi, the 1108 cc FIRE as in the Cinq Sporting was non interference right up until end of 1108 production in 2010 so yours should be fine once you've done the timing & assembled it back together. The 1242cc 8v FIRE was non interface up until 2007 when the 500 came out with VVT but the same VVT setup didn't come to Panda's until the 1108 was discontinued in 2010, as far as I'm aware all 16v Super FIRE's were interference but in my personal opinion the 8v was a better engine. I'm not too sure when Punto's got VVT though. You can usually tell with the later 8v engines (2007 on) if they have VVT as there will be a solenoid present on the rear of the rocker cover behind the oil filler cap.

Okay thanks a lot for the info.
And are you sure that having skimmed the head wouldn't change all this?

I wouldn't have thought so, my dad used to get the early FIRE heads skimmed without issue after changing head gaskets & the 866 cam is just the standard 1242cc 8v MPI cam as used in Punto's etc so should be ok

All right! Thank a lot. When it happened I didn't get the sense that any damage had been done.
Now i feel confident to go get it with a few basic tools, and get it running at the roadside again.

Hello! I’m sorry for interfering in this thread like this, but I have the same question 😅
Few days ago I bought seicento 2006 and immediately made an appointment with a mechanic. In 18 years and 77k km the timing belt has never been replaced.
And so, can I use the car while I wait for an appointment with a mechanic?
I haven’t found any final opinion about the engine being interference/non-interference
Is there any reliable source that can definitely confirm this?
My has the 187A1000 engine and it was registered at the beginning of 2006. I can't tell you the exact date of production.

Thanks!

Hi!
Whether the engine is originally a non-interference, I can't say for sure, but in my mind it feels like there is just enough space. I can however confirm that if you have decked the head on a Cinq Sporting engine by 1,1mm, it will not survive if the timing belt lets go!

Ask me how i know...
On a *completely* unrelated note, if anyone has a spare P75 engine laying about... 😅

The 1108 was never an interference engine so if a cambelt did snap it wouldn't destroy it, it's just the inconvenience of fitting a new belt, tensioner & water pump, the reason it was never an interference engine is because the 1108 never got the variable valve timing (VVT) as the later 1242's did (500 2007 & Panda 2010) it's easily identified by the rocker cover as the VVT models have the VVT Solenoid on the rocker cover behind the oil filler cap where as the earlier 1242's & all 1108's don't have it as they don't have VVT thus not being an interference engine

But, as far as I know, absence of VVT does not determine non-interference of an engine. There are engines, that don’t have VVT, but they are interference. As far as I know, the presence of this part does not determine the engine's interference. The issue lies in the combustion chamber design.
What do you think?
