only problem, being that the 45 gbox physicaly wont fit. easily sorted by swapping for a cento box and changing the linkages etc.

I've been told by FIRE specialists/ tuners that ALL FIRE engines will take ALL FIRE gearboxes?

The 899/ 903 ohv 45 gearbox won't fit because the bellhousing is different. The FIRE 999cc 45 gearbox should bolt up to any FIRE engine!

We have fitted to the 999cc gearbox in several Pandas a 1242cc engine. Problem we had was the starter motor, which needs to come from the 1108 or 1242 but needs slight modification. Otherwise all FIRE gearboxes can be mated with all FIRE engines.

The block height of the 999 and 1108 is different.

Though going by what I've read, the real secret to unlocking power in the FIRE engines is in the head. All the SPI engines (999, 1108, 1242) have the same head. The ports are on the small side, as are the valves.

Actually this is not entirely correct. When having done the 1108 engines for the 750 Motor Club, the regulations did not allow for any modification other than skimming. Neither was any modification permitted on the cam, crank (apart from balancing) nor block other than skimming. Still they had in excess of 75bhp with a single carb running considerably low revs.

Of course you can get a lot more power out by doing headwork. It is even possible to increase the size of the valves.
