I'm probably being a bit harsh, but it does make you wonder whether Fiat have just given up on the rest of their range of cars - they seem to be spending ages fannying around with the 500 and not really caring about the others!;)

This one's alright I suppose, but again it's not really for me.

I'm hoping that a larger 4-door/Giandinera will be on the way before too long, although all seems to have gone quiet on that front (can only assume it was also down to the spending/development cuts that the Panda was subject to?).

check out the new Lancia Ypsilon, a 5 door 500 in a ball gown

Re: I want one! Geneva

Nice car that, and i would consider one and it is going to be sold in the UK finally. The downside is that in the UK it will be badged as a Chrysler. Be nice to own a Lancia, but not if it's called a Chrysler. Crazy

Badges come off :D

True but if there would be one thing worse than owning a Chrysler it would be owning a Chrysler that you had tried to pretend was something else (even if in fact it is, because no one apart from the cogniscenti would know).

I'll stop now before I become an episode of "Yes, Minister".

Or just get a lhd import 'real' Lancia

Re: I want one! Geneva

It's a pity I can't give you two thumbs up for that, one for saying that i'd be pretending that it's a Lancia when in fact it's really a Chrysler....... which is actually a Lancia :p And another thumbs up for talking about Yes, Minister :p

Re: I want one! Geneva

Re the original thread, much as I want to like the Zagato concept it doesn't seem to work for me. Apart from the looks I don't see how it would bring incremental sales.

On the other hand I am liking the Lancia Ypsilon more each time I see it, pity about the Chrysler badges but it would hardly be cost effective to re-establish Lancia in the UK.

I agree with you here, however I do wonder "what if" regarding the Lancia brand and introducing it again over here.

The whole rusting episode is a looooong time ago now, and although it is hard to shake off a certain reputation (irrespective of whether it's justified or not), I can't see why it couldn't come back especially if they are designing cars as nice as the new Ipsilon!:).

Not the same I know, but Skoda reinvented itself over here - why not Lancia? There's enough boring cars out there to make up for more exciting ones!

Sorry if this is OT by the way...

Do you not think the front grille on the ipsilon looks horrible, i looks like the car has a big smile.

Lots of cars have smiles. Tbh the Ypsilon looks fabulous but people in the UK have been brought up on a diet of incredibly boring and bland cars. Whilst the 500 is nice and everything, it's hardly daring like the Ypsilon is.

Agreed - apart from it not being limited to the UK.

Of course, but I think that Britain is perhaps a little worse than some other countries. There's no other reason for there being so many Audi's and VW's on the roads these days.

That's a different point - the alternative choices are there but people choose those brands. In my opinion their choices are driven not by preferring a dull shape but rather brand snobbery.

You've only got to drive in Spain or France to see it. The Peugeots and Seats are hardly more daring than the Audis and BMWs but supposedly "premium" brands are much less common there because people are not prepared to pay the premium price.

Here, Mr Sales Rep aspires to a 4 cylinder poverty spec 3 series over his six cylinder goody laden Mondeo just because it has a BMW badge. That decision is down to snobbery (and probably class somewhere underneath too) rather than because he prefers a boring shaped car.

To be fair most cars these days are a bit dull, Fiat's included. But I think for reasons you've mentioned, British people generally seem to end up with really dull cars. Not that Australians are any better. All Fords and Holdens..... they thing a Peugeot is way out and trendy

nice car! much better than the ka500, using fiats as a base for small lancias isn't anything new. y10 was a panda wasn't it? 2nd gen delta was a tipo etc etc.

If it was a chrysler though, a v8 option is a must.:ROFLMAO::slayer::D preferably a hemi

Hmmmm imagine a 500 powered by a V8 - now I wonder who could shoehorn a 4 litre lump to produce one hell of a loony roller skate :D

I like the look of that. Just a shame it's having a Chrysler badge. I don't mind Chrysler but i think sticking their badge on Lancia's cheapens the feel of the car somehow. Chrysler's don't have much prestige to me.

I do wonder whether they're literally gonna call it the Chrysler Ypsilon or whether it'll get a totally different name

The Delta already sounds quite American so calling it a Chrysler Delta would work, but Ypsillon sounds far too imaginitive to be American ;)
