General Choke lever not reinserting

Hi all, I’m rebuilding my dashboard but I can’t get my choke lever to reinsert all the way. Choke cable is disconnected at the other end, but the lever won’t go all the way into the dashboard. Is there anything I can do to get it in properly? Thanks.

Do you know about the locking function to keep it out at any point you choose?

Undo the lock If it is on. Then wiggle while pushing in.
