Been with my 53 plate 2.2 diesel Ulysse now for about a month and am looking for a bit more go. Have scoured the web and Angeltuning look favourite for the remap, but just wandered if anyone had taken the plunge and got theirs done already. If so with who and why?

Cheers
JTB

Stu will be on tomorrow (demonD) and has the remap on the 2.2 JTD from Angel. Dead happy with it and has it on his Stilo abarth too (not the same extent as available from tuning the JTD though!

I will let him further my comments...

I've had mine done - there are 2 options, both of which cost circa £350 (as at August 2004) - mine is the lesser version and adds around 25 bhp. The 'Mad Italian' adds a bit more.

Rather than being chipped, this is a software remap of the fuel system ecu which optimizes fuel usage.

I've also got a 2.2 JTD and it makes it about 1.5 seconds quicker to 60, the real benefit is mid range and overtaking is alot easier.

MPG has also improved - I am now getting an average of 39mpg as opposed to 37 prior. I've just cloaked up 25,000 miles and the engine is really flexible now.

It takes about 20 minutes, and is easily removable although Fiat garages can't detect it.

Well worth it in my book!

Hi JTB

I can only reiterate what Rich has already said (y)

I went for the 'Mad Italian', and the car now pushes out about 165bhp. I don't have figures to hand, but 0 to 60 now around the 9 sec mark [we did all the testing in rain and standing water as well....]

With Angel, you also have a full-money back guarantee - if you don't like it after a weeks driving, then the remap can be removed - not that you will want to do that ;)

Just a quick word of caution - although Fiat garages can't detect this change, Fiat UK do monitor this forum, so be wary of any open discussion of such a change if there is ANY way Fiat can link a post back to you and something unexplained happens to the car!

Don't think I'm against remapping coz I'm all up for extra power but it makes you wonder why with what is not much effort on Angel Tunings part (when compaired to the developemnt time of the engine) do PSA not make use of the extra benefits.

Engines generally are well built, machining tolerances are excellent, oil technology is better yet it takes a 3rd part to reap the benefit of more torque more BHP and better fuel economy.

The figures would look better in the spec of the car if they did but they still don't.........why not?

I'm not convinced it's just to get the engine passed the warrenty period coz if a few percent more power jeopardises the ability for the engine to last 3 years then watchdog or some other consumer program should get involved.

Very good point, John. Although if FIAT UK are reading this, hopefully they can fix both my Stilo and Ulysse, because the local dealership has no idea.

As for Tuning, Nige has now got the official go-ahead for the new multijet range of diesels; this is FIAT approved, and therefore warranty friendly.

Not wishing to abuse Fiat UK (if you watching the forum), but given their track record on communication with their dealers about known problems, I doubt they would be able to match anything up on this forum or be able to communicate it to the dealer :)

Oi fiat uk giz a job i can do that, i can monitor a forum, :)

Dear David,

Thank you for your application, having reviewed your CV we were impressed to see that you know a huge amount about the Fiat range and in particular the Punto. Sadly this experience is not appropriate and we therefore feel you are not suitable for a position with us at this time.

:)

They never replied when I returned a letter from Customer Services correcting the many grammar and spelling mistakes!!

There are many reasons why the engines are detuned.

Why do I need ECU remapping?
When a manufacturer releases a car into the world it has to be able to cope with many different demands in many different environments by many different users all "from the box". For example, the car has to cope with poor fuel quality, dusty environments, poor services and at the same time provide reliability and economy. This has meant that the manufacturers have in essence detuned the engines to cater for all this.

In Europe and America we generally do not have these issues to the extent that the engines have been detuned to - so, we have the scope to change them. This is what we at Angel Tuning are doing for customers across the UK.

Also, the insurance group would be higher!

I missed this until it was pointed out to me.

This is not the case. Yes we can do the new multijets and the remap is physically undetectable, as it was in the past. As for being Fiat approved though - I dont think that will ever happen!

We have had Alfa dealers point customers with new cars to us though...

If anyone is concenred about warranties, its best to contact us.
