hi i have an annoying chip on my windscreen

seems likley from a small stone on the road
its is on felt slighlty from the outside of the car
and not the inside

what can be done about it??

Most insurance companies have approved windscreen companies who will come out to look at the screen. If it can be fixed, no charge. If new screen needed, you just pay a minimal £50 excess (doesn't affect your no claims bonus).

I'd look at your policy details for information on this.

Only if you are fully comp though!

also, if its autoglass, try and get yourself one with a top tint built in if its getting replaced. i've got the only one in Scotland, and the whole UK for that matter, but it would be cool if there was another :D
i had to wait an extra day for it, but that was hardly a problem when they were coming to my work to do it :D

i phoned autoglass recently and they said it will cost £70 as i am not with one of their insurance companies.

call your insurance company and see who they recommend. Probably someone like RAC windscreens. According to the annoying adverts its free!

If you are paying for it go to a smaller company from the yellow pages as they will be about 40% cheaper!

You will only fail the MOT if its in your line of sight but they recommend getting it done anyway

My car passed its MOT with a small stonechip on the windscreen at eye level...

good to hear it passed the mot

thought there woudlve been liek a solution or resin soemthing or maybe a filler

guess not..

you can have a resin placed into a small chip what they do is they fix a dremel like drill to the window drill out the crack as best as possible and then fill with the resin and its hardly noticable. the rules for the mot is if the chip is in wiper swipe area A (drivers sight to me an you ) :) it cant be any more than 10mm in size

and for swipe area B (youll never guess its the passenger side would you :) ) it has to be less than 20mm i think it was outside the swipe range isnt really counted unless its a major crack :) hope that helps a bit

i've got a small chip too, but liking the sound of the top tint, would look better than a strip of vinyl! maybe time for a new windscreen :D
