Nope - I have a chip but no pin. Don't want one, my head is full of numbers and passwords and I'm SICK of them and can't remember most of them (wish I had nice banks like Abbey that would let me PICK my pin so I could set them all the same and have a cat in hells chance of remembering them).

thing is it has to be reliable, i was in my dentist last week and it was up the creak telling the reception girl she had to phone a number all the time, when she rung the number there was a long wait for a reply, people were going to the bank oppersite to get money instead,

I must admit at the petrol station in Tesco I don't usually bother... I wouldn't know what to do if it didn't match... besides most peoples' signatures change anyway... and also people get narky if there are any holdups - you'd be surprised how damn right rude some people are!

Chip and pin is a fantastic idea. Used it with my parents in France years a go, took long enough to come over here!

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

Cut fraud by 90% in France at least as I remember hearing on the BBC news

I have a guy at school who makes up figures on the spot like that. I did honestly hear it cut it by that much.

I can fill my car up at tesco by putting my card in the pump, no pin and i can get upto £60 of petrol, I bet if a crook does get your card the first thing they do is fill there car with petrol that way.

Ahh the Pay At The Pump - yes I've often thought that... the receipts they print out don't censor out your card number like it does in the store... (i.e. 4971 **** **** 2596) so be aware, if you ask for a reciept... don't leave it for the next person!

"When automated authorisation for card purchases was introduced in the early 1990s, fraud fell - but it has now risen massively and is predicted to be over £666m by 2005 if nothing is done. Judging from the results when chip cards were introduced in France in the 1980s, Chip and PIN should reduce UK fraud by as much as 50% by 2006."

Lloyds TSB^^^

"The initiative is expected to reduce credit and debit card fraud in the UK, which reached £424.6m during 2002, by up to 70%. "

BBC ^^^

"Why is chip and PIN happening?

The chip and PIN are personal to you and make counterfeiting almost impossible by keeping your transactions secure when you're out shopping. A similar scheme in France has cut card fraud by up to 80%."

Halifax^^^

"Under the new system these traditional cards will be replaced with more secure 'chip and pin' cards, a move that cut fraud by 80 per cent when it was introduced in France five years ago."
