This morning, drove the 500 out of the garage after being stuck in there for the last 5 days due to snow.

Had a message on the display.... "Check Daytime Running Lights" with the Amber Exclamation Mark lit.

Had to get out of the car to close the garage, and both DRL were operating no problems. Turned it off and on again, again error still there. Amber light went out eventually.

Had to stop and start on my journey (to pick up some milk and tea bags), and this time no error warning.

Phoned my dealer and asked what it ment. I also mentioned that I have on occasion had a flashing mileage issue, which does normally sort itself out if I stop and re-start. As I was calling, I thought I'd mention it.

His response was, "that's a quirk of the car and no real solution exists for that sir" !!!!

When I mentioned that I heard something about 'Proxy Alignment' and a common problem he denied any knowledge of this.

 They said they would phone me back, but I'm not going to accept the 'it's a quirk of the car' line.

I occasionally get a "check number plate lights" message when both are working fine, usually when its very cold and the battery is a bit low, for example if its been sitting a few days or if the last time the engine was started it was just to get it out of the garage etc.

Just got off the phone and they have offered to do a Proxy Alignment, but said it might not fix the problem. WTF? He also mentioned that it's a known problem that Fiat are investigating and should fix soon.

So, mentioned my surprise at this and wondered if there was an update or something for these cars. And he point blankly said "No." So, all the talk on here of an update is false then?

I didn't want to get into a sort of "I'm reading on these Internet Forums about these problems" type debate which would just me look a bit sad, but makes you wonder if I have an ill-informed dealer or being told porkies.

Going to book it in later this week to get the alignment done.

Where is an update to fix flashing mileage confirmed?

Right, so that's different from what is in this post then?

The proxy alignment fix is not a definate fix, as stated in the post it is for cars not properly PDIed.

Read a few flashing mileages threads and many cars that have had a alignment still unfortunately get flashing issues.

Edit: The other "fix" that seems to have some success is waiting for a second or two between going from MAR to starting the car.
