Cheapest way to repair?

I have a 55 plate yellow fiat panda. A few weeks ago a woman ran a red light and plowed into the front of my little car . Now I have a lovely big patch missing out of my front bumper. I was going to get it done on the insurance however it will cost me my £250 excess which I would really like to avoid. Now I am not too worried about how it looks cosmeticly and have taped it with duck tape for the moment, what I am worried about is future damage to the exposed parts inside (stones coming off the road etc) or if it would affect my MOT. Can I leave it, repair it myself, or am I best getting it done on the insurance?

If you were hit by another drivier running a red light then I hope you got their insurance details. It's their insurance who should be paying for this damage, not yours.

In the meantime the damage shouldn't affect your MOT as long as nothing is in imminent danger of falling off.
