Titch, the Younger Mrs S's Cinquecento had a good scrap this year with Doctor Death the MOT man... but The Doctor eventually had the last laugh.
Titch failed on a side indicator bulb "not orange enough" (as you do..
) but more seriously, some tin-worm on the rear chassis rails and sub-frame (aka beam).
Subframe looks a bit severe but on the face of it, bolt on a "new" or good one (or weld over the holes on the old one... and job done.. but chassis rails is a bit more severe, since they count as being near the seatbelt anchor point, so any corrosion is a no-no..
Just rearwards of the front mounting bolt, the metal has rusted through, so you can see daylight if you look into the rail via the rubber grommet in the boot floor. It's not severe.. just about 4cm long and the width of the rail. It should be possible to weld a patch into the hole, once I've cut out the rust/made a decent finish of the metal.
Does anyone know how thick the metal is on the chassis rail? I could wait until I've cut out the rot and then measure it... but that might take a while and I like to assemble the pieces in advance. I'm guessing it's thicker than the regular 0.8mm sheet they use on the panels and floor etc. It seems thicker... 1.5mm maybe?

Ralf S.
