Dear All,

Got to replace the rear dampers on my 2001 JTD and it looks like a right pain contrary to an earlier post. The top bolts holding the dampers in the rear suspension sub-frame are pointing towards each other with the only the nuts being accessible on the inside. This means that the bolts appear to be trapped by the car body and can only be removed when the sub frame is dropped. Am I missing a trick to avoid disassembly of the exhaust and fuel tank? If not what sort of price and who around Heathrow would you recommend.

Cheers,

Peter S

hi Peter, when you take the rear wheel of,in the wheel arch you will se a whole with a black plastic suround, the head of said bolt is in there, you will need a socket, extension bar, rachet to get it out.

Top tip tape the socket to the exteinsion so it dosent fall of,you need to remove the plastic sleeve to get to i,and another tip if you drop eaither the bolt or socket in the gap ?? use a aireal magnet to fish it out.

Cheers Scotty

Sorry meant to say IF you need to remove the plastic sleeve to get to the head of the bolt just move it,its fidley but you will get there in the end.

Cheers Scotty

as said tape up the socket as i droped my 15mm in there :(

its easy if all the bolts arent seized on.

Regarding the nuts, These are captive nuts IE welded on to the frame. As peeps said, easy enough job if you don't drop the bolt in the frame. To replace bolt after lining up the holes I used a telescopic magnet and just turned it onto the threads a little way before using the socket or box spanner
