Howdy all, the wife sent me a video this morning, her wee Panda (1.3D MJ 2014 4x4) has started flashing the oil lamp light and displayed the message "Change engine oil".

The timing chain was replaced last year approx 8000 miles ago, so the oil has only been in there that length of time, but clearly the garage didn't reset the interval when last changed. I normally try to change the oil myself on my cars, and had planned to do that on this car before Crimbo.

I have seen on the forum that you need MES to reset the service interval on this engine (or an appropriate garage tool) to prevent it going into limp mode after approx 500miles (have experience of this when needed first oil change not long after buying the car), understand why this is as oil has been thinned by diesel from regens.

I have seen a YT video - HERE - that shows how to reset the oil lamp and message. But will this also reset the interval, or do I still need MES to do this job. I have meant to purchase the right kit, just haven't got around to it yet, and it won't happen this month!

Cheers, Jamie

I think MES is probably the only route, though some other diagnostic tools probably can do this htey will not be as good as a tool. I have MES and its one of the best things I ever bought its saved me its cost many times over. I got the whole kit, software on a stick, cables and adapters from gendan.co.uk If you do your own repairs and especially if you have more than one Fiat group car its worth the cost. It allows testing of nearly all electroic components and reading their data live, graphing performace, reprogramming keys, altering adjustable functions and service items. I have never for a minute regretted buying this tool. It allows me to know what the cars codes are before handing it to ay garage and that is priceless.

Thanks. Wondered if that may be the case!

the pedal method for resetting oil change due flashing oil light also resets the degradation index.
MES is good and worth getting if you are interested in what is going on with vehicle.
Ooh, I like that answer. Oil change tomoz. Will do pedal reset and then we’ll see if she’s limping home one day in the next couple of weeks! Report back once clear of 500 miles.

Oh - I thought that only reset the ‘service due’ message (on both petrol and diesel pandas, which is based on mileage or date) but was led to believe that didn’t reset the ‘oil change needed’ (flashing red oil light, based on DOF regen counter) in the diesel versions… I tried it and it didn’t work (but maybe I did it wrong?).

Hi,
I had no problem performing the flashing oil light reset by pedal method.

I would say its worth buying mes if you intend to keep your car, full registered copy £50 from gendan i bought the leads for it from gendan but can be purchased on ebay for cheaper price, all you need then is a laptop and not be a numpty like i am with computers, but the aftersales at gendan directed me in the non numpty way set up the drivers and leads 😂🤣😅

I have tried it and believe its a fantasy. However if there is a srquence I would love to know it MES is not always to hand. I cant see how pedals can send any signal to the ecu I have looked and tried some suggested routes on a variety of cars and its never worked for me either. What sequence is requwired?
