Anyone know anything about Tipo / Tempra locking?

On mine, the driver's door lock has stopped unlocking the other doors - although it will lock them fine.

Knackered switch on the lock - only cure is to buy a new central locking motor for that door, around 70 pounds.

Do you have central locking relay in the fuse box? if so which one is it ? Mine C/L does not work full stop but i have 3 spare relay slots on the fuse box..

The relay for the central locking is in the fuse box under the steering wheel, along with the 20A fuse too - if the whole system is dead, check this fuse first - it may be one of the locks causing it to blow, thus knocking out the entire system.

Ok, which relay in the fuse box are we looking at here?
I know the top right as you look at it is the flasher relay, the rest are all unknown.

Tipo central locking. Have had three locks give trouble. Took lock apart and found that the plastic block that runs along a threaded plastic rod was worn or brocken on the thrust side. A few dollars only (in NZ) for some plastic welding and very carefully sanding it back to tollerence, reassemble carefuly. All three have worked for several years now with no trouble. New locks are expensive! Initially thought problem was a microswitch---it took a few hours to find the problem. Many Tipos in NZ with this problem.(poor materials used lead to premature wear?)

Ha - more FIAT forum members in NZ - hello!

I used to have a Tipo DGT with non-operative locking on right-rear door. I don't remember the obvious broken piece but certainly the *#@! thing failed to work in the car despite working fine several times on the bench.

The temptation was always to convert the central locking using one of those $40 kits - excellent value for four motors plus those overgrown terminal-block things that you clamp onto the existing lock rods.

Of course my Fiat Uno, Lancia Thema, etc. had the advantage of using the cheap and common type in the first place - ironically better in the long run, though I'm sure at the time that FIAT's choice for the Tipo was much better quality.

Digressing, but of the 'standard-type' central locking, the original Swiss-made units (fitted by FIAT) are awful - the aluminium gear wears out (and not the plastic gear). You'd have thought that, of all people, the Swiss would be able to make gears. It seems that the current cheapie Made In China units are rather more reliable.
