Technical Central Locking BEEEP?

I've noticed my newly-acquired Croma is the first car since the 80's that BEEEPs really loudly when you lock it, then BEEP-BEEPs when you unlock it.

Before my neighbours start complaining about the other half leaving for work at 7am, is there a way of disabling this pointless feature?

I believe the functioning of all apsects of the alarm are configurable by Fiat dealers. This is because the alarm is generic and is configured for "country". e.g. beeps, flashing of indicators, duration of siren etc.

Hopefully one of the current Fiat dealer mechanics here on this forum will be able to advise in more detail. Failing that call you dealer.

Personally the Beeps let me know if everything is ok and I've not left a door half latched.

Ta for that, it's going to the dealer tomorrow, so I'll ask. I just wondered if there was some kind of press-button-A-three-times-while-standing-on-your-head cheat code. Although it seems that FIAT don't do much of this kind of thing - my SEAT had loads of hidden features if you knew what to press.

I know what you mean about it being a positive noise, but it's seriously loud. The other half leaves at about 7am, and I don't think our retired neighbours would be too impressed with this every morning.

I've got used to glancing at the indicators as I lock with previous cars anyway, would rather have to do that than face a mob of angry oldies.

Well I do understand exactly where you are coming from. Car alarms are a nightmare and nuisance at the best of times. The prime security is the immobiliser. An alarm going off after some '.......' has broken your windows is of little help to anybody, and that is even anybody takes notice of the alarm.

If all else fails you could muffle, possibly even disconnect the siren unit. If you decide to knoble the alarm then you best check with your insurer, stating clearly the problem, Fiat's inability to negate the problem and that all visual deterrants, immobiliser and deadlocks remain active. With a bit of luck they will be perfectly happy and not want to charge you extra insurance premiums. But please do check first. The last thing you want to be is uninsured!

Dealer says it can't be altered. I suspect they can't be bothered.

The manual states:

"With the exception of certain markets, the system sounds a "beep" and the doors are locked."

This suggests it is configurable. Anyone have any inside knowledge?

I think it's pretty anti-social to make a racket at 7am - I quite like my neighbours. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but it would technically be illegal to blast the horn at that time.

Hopefully (give the guy a chance) T14086 (forum moderator) who I think also works in a Fiat dealership, will be catching up on recent posts and may be able to give you a definitive response.

I know the Stilo for example can be configured on the alarm side regarding flashes and beeps so I find it a little odd that any of the modern Fiats can not be so configured. Just does not make production cost sense.

I'm also prepared to admit that I know nothing, or Fiat have missed a production cost / parts sourcing opportunity.

It is possible to program the configuration of the alarm system installed on the vehicle at the end of line by defining the presence/absence of the following modules:
- siren
- ultrasound module

This information can be read, but not modified, by the diagnostic equipment which will adapt its diagnostic procedures depending on the configuration present.
The configuration is transferred to the Body Computer by means of the vehicle Customisation procedure (PROXI).
The programming allows the NBC to memorize the operating mode thereby allowing the system to be configured in accordance with the country to which it is being exported in line with the laws in force there.
The system is in the rest state during the programming stage."

So it would appear that it's possible for a skilled operator to tweak it using Examiner.And now my head is hurting and I have to go and lie down.

suggests you get what you get, the other:

suggests something a little contrary. Bearing in mind this may have all been translated from Italian I guess the only definitive answer is for soemone skilled in the art with the "Examiner" connects up and has a little play.......
