I get a check disc error when I put a store bought cd into the cd player. About one of ten times it works. Think it might be due to the way the disc is seated as a few times it's sucked the disc in and refused to go all the way. Only other instance ive found of this on the forum is related to burning mp3 disks which I'm not doing.

Happens to me from time to time and others has also experienced this. Usually back to normal after some time of inactivity.

In my case the way to minimize issues is:
- use my own-recorded CDs, on a good brand blank CDs (Verbatim), rather than buying store-bought CDs; I know it should be working with all kinds of discs, but the player seems a bit picky and store-bought CDs are usually pretty low in quality (the blank disc itself, not the quality of the recording);
- record in lowest possible speed;
- enable "compression" from the menu when MP3s are being played.

When above is respected, I only have issues once in several months and as I said, problems are gone if you leave the player inactive for some time. Good luck.

My point exactly: retail discs = bad, your own quality discs on low speed = good :)

Store CDs are recorded on lowest possible quality blank discs in order to cut expenses, and since the CD player has proven to be a bit picky, I am not surprised you get troubles with all of them.

Ugh this happened to me but I thought it was just a dodgy disc I bought. I have only ever bought 1 CD to play in the car (emergency to keep the kids quiet lol) and it never worked. Luckily it was only a quid.

I have never heard of a cd player finding it difficult to load commercial discs, the head unit must be real cheapo. I will stick to the USB stick from now on.

I presume the discs work OK in other players? The problem could be dust on the laser head. I've recently realised that my laser cordless mouse plays up with the slightest speck of dust on the laser.

I think the warranty on the radio unit is only one or at most two years, so it may be a kill or cure job.

Hell yeah, screw cd's! I've got 8590 songs on my USB stick. Absolute murder trying to find a specific song though. Infact, scratch that... near impossible. Usually just got it on "Play All" for a completely eclectic mix.

Mind you some of us don't have USB slots
:cry: :cry: :cry: I'd love to take my Zen Sleek out in the car for entertainment. I've got one of those Belkin transmitter thingies.......somewhere.
Just as everything is 'somewhere' after our recent house move. :bang:

Normal musical entertainment is provided by Planet Rock on DAB via my Pure Highway.

If you don't already have the USB you can always buy a 3.5mm jack connection that plugs into the Aux input on the rear of the stereo. The cable complete with connectors and the pins to remove the stereo from the dash can be purchased on ebay, just search for FIAT BRAVO VISTEON 2007 (approx £25).

I bought one and with the help of a friend at work it was fitted in under 5 mins.

Thanks, I know, but I actually don't really miss the USB. CDs are not as convenient as USB, I know (had USB and card slot in my ex-car) but I don't tend to change too often the music I listen to in my car, so CDs suit me just fine...

I only tried the USB slot because I was getting the same problem with the CD player not reading discs, but now I'd never turn back! :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

After much testing, I can confirm the following:

I have one CD that plays every time without fail (coincidentally its brand new never played before).
One other CD plays 8/10 times.
Some others play less than three or four attempts for every ten.
The rest dont play at all.
No CD-Rs play, although if I insert an MP3/data disk in it recognises it as CD-ROM and returns a different error code.

Its almost like the thing is on its way out and can just about bring itself to play really good media only, and at a push. Sure I normally use the USB so its no big deal, but I dont often get chance to rip stuff and put it on my thumb drive, plus friends put their CD's in and its easier to grab a CD off the shelf on the way out of the house if I fancy something different.

Disappointed to say the least, car only just hit three years old and this not covered by extended warranty.(n)
