CCTV good enough to ID the scrotebag who keeps keying my dads car

Howdy.

Anyone know of any decent CCTV systems that can be had for good money, someone feels either wronged by my dad, or has a thing against cars with personalised plates on it - his old car was badly keyed, and the car he replaced it with now has a light scratch down all one side and a deep scratch in the bonnet.

Wasn't *overly* bothered with the old car, but the new one is less than 2 years old - and still quite shiny.

so am looking for a decent security system to install, will mount it on the house, to cover the car. but must be off good enough quality for the police to be able to use the footage to ID the little ****er.

(can someone fix the the title for me!)

plenty on here will advise
whats the set up of the driveway?
eg is it visible from the house, round the side
is it gated etc etc
you may want to go 2 tier with camera/s on show but also a stealth camera nearer the car

it isn't gated. the room at the front of the house is a spare bedroom, so car is not visible when sat watching telly. the old car was only ever keyed when it was parked on the road, but someone has actually come onto the driveway to do the new one.

the car won't fit any further down the drive as it is too narrow.

nice house
well if the front room is spare then i suppose you could mount a camera inside the window.
they are visible at night because the infra red leds glow
i notice the garage at the back, that could be good for a direct line camera
we picked up a set of wireless cameras from ebay with a pci card allowing you to record direct to the PC HD

Re: CCTV good enough to ID the scrotebag who keeps keying my dads car

what is the quality like on them, got a link to them. am dubious about buying wireless cameras without knowing before hand what the quality is actually like on them.

hmm it was a while back now.
we never hard fitted them as i 'sorted' our problems another way ;)
quality IIRC was good however given the position it would never have shown the faces nor been clear enough at night.
however combined with a security light it could have

this was the one(though dunno if it was the seller)

I had a play with one of these:

To be honest the quality was no good for detail. The signal dropped whenever anything with a motor in it was used, the receiver needed to be tuned by turned a small knob which took me about 15 minutes to get it in the right place, then the slightest vibration or knock the box and it'd need to be done again.

thankfully I was only testing it for work so not my money wasted ;)

something to consider with ligths tho, annoying if they come on everytime someone walked past the house.

does anyone know if it's easy / cheap to integrate microwave sensors with the cars OE alarm?

with a bit of tweaking you can usually get the lights clipping the car zone rather than pavement
plus turn the on time to the minimum

some people deserve to die slowly and painfully.

you can get a doorbell style alarm that tells you when someone is near your car. you out the sensor on an exterior wall, and it works the same as a PIR sensor like you have on a house alarm. you may get sick of running to the window for the local cat 3 times a day, but its peace of mind and it gives you a chance to catch the swines.

they're also good to use as automatic doorbells, giving you an extra few seconds to prepare before the cops burst the door down.
