Just had the old girl MOT'd.

I've been advised to get the catalytic converter replaced ASAP as it is on the way out.
If not done it could cause problems with the exhaust, causing that to need replacing.

What exactly happens when a cat "goes"?

My cat went shortly after having my stainless exhaust put on the car, all the insides broke down and little pieces of porcelain filled the middle box and made it rattle like hell.

The only thing is that the standard FIAT system will absorb the vast majority of the crap that will come out of the cat, so you will not hear it.

hi i would take the cat off and bash the insides out and put it back on if the emissions are low to start off u'll get away on the mot that will make ur car faster and u wont need a new cat that costs £120 just for the cat

I got my cat for £40-odd quid, I can't remember exactly how much because they never sent me the bill, so in actual fact it cost me nothing!! :-D

That was from Sutton Auto Factors, so IIRC Mark, there is one not too far from where you are.

EDIT: Oh, and it won't pass the emmisions with no cat, mine failed 2 weeks ago because of my decat pipe ;)

but if ur cats still on with no insides they cant tell if the emissions are low like mine iv done it to mine and it past that was two months ago

Thanks Lee.

I work between Bulwell and Mapperley.
Probably give them a ring on Monday.
£65.25 plus the dreaded, according to their website.
I will be unlucky enough to get a bill!
