General carrying a 1242 in a cinq!

Hi,

I'm finally getting a 1242 this weekend, i'm collecting it from over 100 miles away, when i go to visit relatives. I wanted to know about how well cinqs carry this weight in the back?, i have 14" alloys on 185/50's. I have had the car stacked up with three people in it before and a little rubbage over bumps, will an engine be just as heavy? Also is it a two man lift job?

I carried a 1108 engine and box from Towcester to Liverpool in Blue 2 with no problems. Take a blanket and some means of tying the engine down: it wont slide around a lot, but will try to stand up, which could mean curtains for your rear window.

Realistically, to lift it in and out over the hatch is a 2 man job.

the engine is about 100kg, that's like one 16st person

The engine really doesnt weigh all that much. I managed to carry a 1242 + box attatched from the bottom of my driveway to the house (about 25ft) on my own.

The car has no trouble atall carrying it.

great, i'll bring a rope to tie it down, i should be able to get someone to give me a hand to take it out of the car as it going to my workshop to do some work on it before fitting!

shouldnt be a problem. I carried a punto complete rear axle, front subframe and various other parts along with all my tools about 50miles with a passenger in an 899 cinq. didnt seem to complain much.

I was on a 50mm drop, and it was pretty much on the bump stops, but it coped fine, and weighs a fair bit more than an 8v.

And be carfull with the fluids in the engine, last time I collected a cinq engine, I had the oil drained first.

was that the 1.4 engine or the 1.2 mpi? the 1.4 was well heavy lol

that was the 1242 16v, but i think there is very little differnce between 1242 and 1368.

in my panda 750cc with 14" wheels i took this from northampton to essex

for some of the way it also had the 6 speed box bolted to it, but i dropped that off on the way back

picked it up today!, no problem what so ever, no rubbing or anything, its a 1242 with 70k on the clock but the head gasket is starting to go but i was gonna change it no matter what engine i bought, all mine for £25!

hopefully in for the summer

where is your engine in boot pic then?

got this in a sei, can't remember what type of engine. was single OHC though

actually, i think there was an engine under that lot.

better late than never, heres some pics of my 1242 in the boot but leaving my workshop, should be fitted next saturday, other boxes contain p75 cam and 38mm tb, still stuff to be done!

i wish my car was this low!
