Hi i have just bought a carputer see the link below.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-0Ghz-Carput...ageNameZWD4VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m124

I was just wondering if any body knows how or if it is possible to run two operating systems on it. One being Roadrunner the multimedia OS which has everything stripped down so it starts really qiuickly and i also wanted MS Windows to use it as a normal PC but loading time from power will be slower. So can anybody help me on how i could get two different OS's and what i need to do it.
I have a book on the subject that i will read at some point so i should be knowledged soon.

Also does anybody know where i can get a cheap but good Touchscreen im not sure what sort i want yet so any suggestion would be good.

Thanks

Stuart

Best bet for a touch screen is ebay by far
can you not just partition the hard drive and install each O.S onto a partition

Yea, as said, the best thing to do is to create two partitions on the hard drive, one for each operating system. Then, when you switch it on, you'll get a option of which OS to start, and a countdown timer that'll select the default OS.

If you have trouble dual-booting, check your boot.ini file is setup right.

I would like to use it as a normal computer when im just sitting around going to install the internet, TV and probably get some games. its not a bad spec computer really so i was going to hook it up to a Hornby train power inverter so i can use it indoors as i have a Mac as my personal computer but theres a lot that you cant do on it that you can with a PC.
I didnt think that it seemed to big it should fit in the Glove Box.
I dont know a lot about PC's so i wouldnt know how to partition the OS but im sure i can find out easily enough.
Would partitioning it mean that i wouldnt be able to access things like music that is on one OS on the other.

Looks like RoadRunner isn't an OS, it's an application which runs on top of Windows and behind the scenes uses Winamp to play the media. I think most people change the default shell from explorer.exe to RoadRunner so that on bootup that's what appears.

It does say setting it up's not for the faint hearted but if you can get it sussed out I think it'll be very cool.

I would set up three partitions.

First one, NTFS file system, about 10GB, install Windows XP on it. Install RoadRunner/Winamp to it too.

Second partition, NTFS file system, also about 10GB. Install Windows XP to it too, along with all the other programs you'd use with a normal XP installation - Office etc.

Third partition, NTFS, use the rest of the disk, about 100GB. Don't install an OS to it, just use it to store your media, MP3s, movie files etc. Because it's NTFS it'll be accessible by both versions of Windows you'll have installed. It'll probably show up in both installations as disk E:

On bootup you'll get given a choice of which of the installations of Windows XP to boot into (probably C: or D).

I'd do it like this so that if at some point in the future you need to reinstall XP on one of those first two partitions you don't need touch the partition with all your media on it.

Good luck, sounds like it could be pretty tricky if you haven't got too much experience with computers but once it's up and running it'll be well worth it (y)
