Wires.jpgPlease can you help?

As I was mopping some oil up in the dark last night I think I dislodged wires. When the key is turned nothing happens - not even the initial click from the engine bay when the key is turned. Sadly another engine has been dropped in long ago and the rewiring is bit heath robinson however it was starting last night ! As you can see from the picture I have three loose female connectors from the starting motor area (2 yellow/black - 1 red red/black). Possibly not all 3 of them have come loose (unaccounted-for connections are not unusual in this car!) - but working backwards does the lack of a click mean I should be looking for something specific missing from the starter motor etc?

Cheers Jonti

One wire will go to the solenoid, and one to the starter. You will prob need to do this from underneath. On a diesel. there is also a wire to the diesel pump. Check this also.

Andy.

That helps. What is the wire to the diesel pump doing?
It runs the pump. If no connection due to loose wire or broken wire, engine will not run. I kept having a stall on mine with no restart for ages, and so after much head scratching , found a tiny break in the wire. After new wire made up, car ran perfect !

That happened on my starter circuit a while ago. I am just looking at the garage repair done at the time which appears to be an end-on piece of new wire twisted for 5mm to the old one without any plug or solder. :slayer: In this version, I thought the pump could run off the timing belt???

Soon as you turn the ignition off, it stops the fuel flow, so engine stops. This is how it controls the fuel.
