we are thinking of buying a multipla and wanted to know if there is still plenty of room in the back for two car seats and a 10 year old to sit comfortably in the middle of them

yes probably will do that but just wondered if anyone had put car seats in the back and how well they fitted and how much room was left

Yup, loads and loads of space for a ten year old - even my overweight mother-in-law fits comfortably in the back with our 2 kids sitting in their kiddy seats. And remember - you've still got a spare seat in the front!!!

BTW I used to have a VWGolf - v tight squeeze in the back once 2 car seats were in.

Oh, and all the seats we've used have fitted really well in the Multipla (better than the Golf in fact) (y)

thanks for that frogface and as for the spare seat when it comes to our 10 year old that is what it is going to stay 'spare' ;)

Absolutely no problem whatso ever!
Each of the rear seats is full size unlike most other cars, and each has a fully functioning real seatbelt! As a family car it cannot be beaten it is so practical it is untrue. The boot can be a problem with pushchairs until you get used to it, perhaps leaving the flap out, but there is so much room you will have no real problems.
For economy choose the diesel derivatives as they are so much more economical, 42 knocking about is not uncommon, and if possible for piece of mind buy one with a warranty. If necessary a third party warranty as they do have "foibles", like any other motor, and it does help. Furthermore if funds allow get one with aircon as there is a lot of glass and they do get hot inside...however sunblinds from fiat make an enormous difference I have been reliably told.

Finally, if you need more info this is not the forum to be looking at as there are not a lot of multi specific postings...try the multi owners website and its yahoo forum
See www.multiplaowners.co.uk and down the left hand side is a link to the forum along with frequently asked questions and a link will take you to the UBB (Ugly Bug Ball) pages where you can watch a video showing what we get up to in May!
Failing that look for it in Yahoo...you will get all the help and info you need from there!

Yes, but the middle one is usually only a waist strap. The multi has the full three point harness

Minority....are you still here? "next time you change your car...don't
buy a Fiat!"

Are you actually old enough to drive a car or, do I know you and your taking the proverbial?
If this small minded sarcastic remark is directed at me, as Ifeel/know it is, then I am surprised that the "moderators" have allowed it! Especially when my postings are removed! Sarcastic personal remarks like this are exactly what I was moaning about when I said how poor this forum actually is. I rest my case....hence why I only visit occaisionally and help multi owners who I direct to a good multi forum. (y)
Oh....and as for dont buy a fiat, unless i buy another multipla i wont touch another one again believe me! They suffer from bad management from Fiat and childish individuals like yourself who unfortunately drive them! If you don't believe me just check out on the web...it should take no more than 5 mins. Suggest you start at www.honestjohn.co.uk

Sad world innit!??!

You publically stated here on this forum that we post useless topics & are not technical enough for you & that you were leaving this site,it is this that my 'sarcastic' comment was aimed at.Oh yeah & you also stated 'dont buy a fiat' which was a pretty stupid thing to suggest on a fiat forum.A forum is as its suggests and not only covers technical issues but is a place to meet up for friendly chat etc.
Yes we all know about the multipla website & honestjohns many of us here use them as we are capable of using search engines.Unfortunally the internet is full of peoples opinions so its up to us as individuals to decide for ourself, just because a particular website slags fiats it doesn't mean we shouldn't buy them,we decide for ourselves.
Obviously you dont like fiats...fine thats your choice but keep it to yourself as we aint interested in you slagging the cars we drive....that is childish if you ask me coming on here saying that.
Also for your information I have been in the motor trade nearly 20 years (before that the aircraft industry) & work for 2 major manufacturers (to specialist standard) mostly but go to others where I'm required to help them out if they are having trouble.I drive 2 fords & a fiat but mostly motorbikes & attended training courses constantly......what the f*ck would I know about the car industry, yeah your right there

God, you must really dislike me...let me try and defend myself in the interest of, if not mutual disagreement, constructive critiscism and the moving forward of this forum.
Fiats generally are ok cars...I said and I still say its the management that ruin Fiat. There customer service above dealer level is appalling. At dealer level, like all other dealers, it depends on the indidvidual dealer, there are good and bad in all. However, they can only ever be as good as Fiat hq allow them to be. I speak from bitter dissapointment from a recent disagreement with Fiat and how they not only forwarded me to the helpline in Italy, where they could not understand me, and how they have yet to reply to any of my letters asking for help and clarification of there warranty.
As you have been in the industry for so long you must understand and accept that this goes on surely, or, am I the only one who has trouble with dealers?
Sadly, I think not as these forums unfortunatley are littered with problems from all makes and models.
I have never said the postings on this forum are not technical enough, the more technical the better, which is why we actively look for mechanics and service people similar to yourself to help out on forums such as this. What I did say and I still feel it holds true, is that certain postings are unfortunately merely everyday chit chat that are not relevant, furthermore, alot of people post replies trying to help, I admit, but as they do not have the same type of vehicle they cannot always give truly relevant views that reflect the queries of the post.

Now, postings...I agree that these forums are for friendly chit chat type of postings like you say, but, in the relevant place. However, and I expect you will possibly take umbridge at this but, no malice is intended, it was you that made the sarcy comment against me. Not I against you. I have no real problem with that, freedom of speach etc, but truly, there is no need for it.

Finally, if we were all to practice what you and I preach on these forums,ie, be friendly, helpful, topical, technical and above all polite and supportive this forum could become so much more useful to EVERYONE not just multipla owners.

I wish you well...
Moriarty...
p.s. I too was a biker, sadly a long time ago, Big Triumph, Hondas, a Suzuki and my last bike was a Z1 from '75. Now we could have done with a forum like this then i can tell you!

And Multiplas have six full size seats each with a three point belt... I think that was the topic.

OOOpps!! Sorry....sometimes you can get side tracked, apologies all around.
However, on that note I looked at another mpv Renault Scenic(?)at work today and noticed that the three seats in the back in a bench although nice and large would mean the person in the middle doesnt have a true seat as the seat squab sticks up abit and is not the comfiest of things to sit on by all appearances. This is more true if baby seats were fitted either side. Fitting them in the middle and one side might be better!

Supportive? Then why are you plugging the 'other' Multipla forums then?

This forum is helpful to 99.9% of our members (y) :)

i have only just seen this thread.... if you hate this forum so much why are you here

also if you have a complaint about a post, please use the "report to a moderator" button.

sorry to go off topic, just pointing out the feature on the forum.

Back to the topic, if i was to have kids i would def go for the multipla, i sat in one a few months ago and loved it :)

Scenics have individual seats, not a bench. The mk1/1.5 middle seat was slightly thinner but still wide enough for an average weight average height male (me) in the middle. Only concern people ever had about that was that you couldn't swap the seats around, not sure why that was a problem though.

I can't quite be 100% sure but I 'think' the mk2 had 3 same sized seats but again they may have made the middle one slightly smaller to give the outer seats which are mainly used, more room.

So if the car you saw had a bench seat it wasn't a scenic.

Never sat in a multipla but have done 10's of ks in a scenic (front/back and driving) and find the seats (as with all Renaults and most French cars) fantastically comfortable with ability to slide fore/aft and recline throughout. I have done about 50 miles in a picasso (10 trips of 5 miles) and oh dear God......those rear seats are awful! No idea about the front in the picasso.

Also you have ISOFIX of course in scenics so that helps you with your childseats so again, not such an issue with fitting them in. I assume multiplas have the same.

ISO FIX is industry standard and all Fiats produced now have this system to fit child seats. When the Multipla arrived on these shores Fiat UK encouraged all dealers to get potential owners to drive it. Once in the car, the car sells itself, from the face the airvents make, the fantastic seats, the massive amount of visibilty, the fantastic driving position, and the camaradery? of the peolpe who buy them, (individual thinkers, confident enough in themselves to pick something different). Fiat UK still encourages dealers to get potential owners to drive it, and Multipla still sells itself. A fantastic car. (y)

This is becoming tiresome I am afraid...
I plug the multi forum ONLY to multi owners as they MAY need more specific help, hence my statement..."but as they do not have the same type of vehicle they cannot always give truly relevant views that reflect the queries of the post" Obviously on the multi forum they may/can get this help. Its not that this or that forum is better but, possibly more suited to that persons query. There is no reason, I believe, for me not to be able to promote the multi or any other forum, but, If, as I believe, you are a moderator and you seem to say other wise, then then so be it. I shall no longer plug it. But, the downside of that is that will possibly be to the detriment to multi users who donot know of the other forum. Bear in mind it does bode two ways. I have actually said that there are people on this forum that may be able to help when we have had problems sorting out someones query. Only once in fairness, but I try to be impartial.
However, as I am obviously being taken to task for trying to help people and I obviously seem to upset people on this forum, I am afraid that from now on I shall only keep an eye on the forum incase I see an answer to a query that may benefit others on the multiplaowners forum but, will now no longer post to it.
I am afriad that I see this forum like going to a pub where theres no friends...you just dont go there again!
Sad really....

Moriarty the "Billy no mates" bids you all farewell and good luck!

Which is a shame really. I have popped over the other Multi Forum, but its a Yahoo groups thing and I hate those. I have browsed around though and I would hardly say it is avoid of general chit chat!

Maybe if they got some different message board software/service provider then I might go over more often.

It'll be sad to see you go away though Moriarty. The more Multi drivers who post her the better in my opinion - I hope you tell the other lot to come over here as often as you tell us to go over there ;)

Back to the point - the rear seats in the multi all recline and the middle rear slides backwards and forwards as well as being repositionable like the other two.

Good, eh :)
