Hi guys, my car has been running ready rough recently but only in short spurts. The car would judder and acceleration would be slow.

However today it seams to be doing it more permanently and the following light just started flashing before going away. Anyone know what it is?? Cheers guys Jacob

I should add it’s a 2010 Grande Punto 1.4L petrol with 88K on the clock! And the light has now come on permanently! Cheers :)

www.multiecuscan.net You will have to pay the registration fee (€50) to use it on your car. It runs on Windows, a laptop wit Windows XP or later is OK.
Elm 327 to USB interface Get one that says it's for Multiecuscan.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271275445368 is known to be OK. Interfaces can be bought on Amazon too. Avoid cheap <£10 ones from China.
You are going to pay about £70 but MES will do much more than a £20 code reader and a garage will charge you as much, or more, for a code read and light reset.

Finding out which codes are stored would be greatly helpful. But my guess is somthing wrong with the ignition side of the engine. So a temperamental coil ? Due to the judder and poor acceleration.

I put some fuel injector cleaner into the tank (more than I should) and after another 2 days of running like death it’s running fine now and the engine light even went out?? Should I still get it checked out?

When was it last serviced? It could probably do with a new fuel filter if injector cleaner has resolved the issue.

Still needs the fault codes reading though to find out for definite what it was, and how to prevent it happening again.

It is due a service at the end of October and the spark plugs are due so I’ll be doing them has anyone got a link to the fuel filter for this car (2010 Grande Punto, 1.4L petrol) I can only find the diesel ones

I’m Gunna buy a code reader so even tho the engine management lights gone off will the codes still be available to read?

Depends on the severity of the failure. some are stored, less important ons are not.
I strongly recommend Multiecuscan over a simple self contained code reader. it may cost a little more initally but does much more then just code reading e.g reading sensor values and operating actuators, gives model specific information for codes and will soon pay for itself if you do your own servicing.
