Hi folks, I have a Fiat Marea HLX Weekend 2.0 20V 98 (R-reg) and bought it a couple of days ago. I just went to open the boot (I've had it open before) and the handle on the boot lid appears to be up (as it would be when you press it) and won't go any further so won't unlock the boot. And it won't come down again, won't move at all in fact. How do I get it open?! I don't have an owner's manual so perhaps this is normal and I'm missing something?

maybe the mechanism inside is jammed, is it possible to get in the boot from the rear seats take of the boot cover and "jimmy it open so you can have a good look

you could always do it like a tooth, except instead of tying the tooth to the door tie the door to a lamp post or something and drive off.

The hairspring has gone

The exact same thing happened to my Weekend (2000). The hairspring pushing back down the handle rusts solid. I managed to bodge a spring I had lying around, under the cylinder of the lock, secured by a bit of wire to stop it slipping out. Problem solved. You will have to totally dismantle the tailgate lock. Careful, there are more bolts holding it on than you think.

cheers

Fixed it

Solution was this: gave it a whack(!) and the handle popped out, although I had to operate the central locking a few times before the thing opened. Thanks for all the help.
