Definitely a frustrating problem. I've stripped the mechanism down 3x now, but every winter it sticks. I got round the problem by bodging together a curtain rin and a bracket held onto the handle with self-tapper... you just get used to pulling the thing down when it sticks!

Same problem and after trying and getting nowhere i drilled 2 small holes in the plastic flap and passed a black cable tie through to form a loop just big enough to get your little pinky in and pull it back down when it sticks. it works every time and being black you can hardly see it. (costs nowt)

Have and had and still get this problem occasionally, spray a bit of WD40 and then get a screwdriver and ease the handle down to its original position, if you have central locking, lock and unlock the car, you will hear a clunk as the boot locking mechanism resets. Then try opening the boot again. The problem stems from the design of the rear of the vehicle and the amount of spray that is thrown up the back of the car. Another common problem with be a seizure of the rear window wiping mechanism if water seeps down through the seal on the rear screen.

The rubber on my handle has started to come off, so when mine gets stuck i just pull it down with the rubber!! The old central locking open and close works too.

Thanks for the tip, sounds the easiest and cheapest of all the replies. My handle is sticking so I will give this a try and hope for the best.
