Technical cant open bonnet, Please help.

hi all,

Missus has a punto and we came to pop the hood and the lever in the drivers footwell wont work.

i removed the lever mechanisim from the foot well and tried pushing and pulling the cable with pliers but it wont budge. its not broken, as far as i can tell.
have had a look through what little spaces there are in the front of the car to see if its possible to flick the release catch but cant see any thing obvious.

so.... any tips to get the bonnet up with out using the normal release method ??

update.....

after trying a suggestion of jiggling the cable with pliers while some one pushes up n down on the bonnet the cable has pulled through.

so think the cable has been pinched n cut or its rusted n broke some where..

so how do you open the bonnet with out the cable connected?
if it means taking off the front spoiler n bumper how easy is that?

a pdf workshop / service manual would be nice..

crawled under the car with torch in hand found the cable and popped the bonnet.. problem solved..
