I have a 1979 Fiat X19 carburated 1500 with a/c. the car has had fires breakout in the engine compartment before. we know that this was caused by the soleinoid plunger on the carburater being absent, but, when i got the car the crankshaft was trashed. One of the cylinders had spun a bearing. We are not sure what caused this but i hope that one of you can possibly help me. Thanks a million.

A spun bearing is usually due to low oil or very high mileage. The engine will need to be taken apart and cleaned well. Replace the main, rod and thrust bearings. If high mileage you should inspect the pistons and at minimum replace the rings and hone the cylinders.
Good Luck

The car has 30k miles on it. It has been sitting since 1986 and its a 79. We already did the whole engine repair thing as well. Thank you, we were just wondering what might have been the cause. We suspected that the owner tried to start it with low oil. Thank you,

Richard
