Technical Can I remove this?

My centre caps won't fit in my back wheels due to the silver caps on the drum.

I don't know what this part is called or what its for, but if I remove it will it cause any problems?

Someone else on here removed it without issue I think, might have been JackFi.

I'm pretty sure it's just on there to protect the hub itself.

I heard it holds the grease for the stub axles, surely removing them would cause it to loose the grease?

Some cars do have a similar cap to hold the grease, but I'm unsure on whether this silver cap does that on the GP.

Would be great if anyone could clarify it for me, don't wanna pull em off if its gona cause an issue.

Then again I might get some rear spacers, this will solve the problems too

Answers easy really.
If it wasn't needed Fiat wouldn't pay to fit it.

Imagine how many have been sold and even at a £1 cost the tolal saving in the production run.

It keeps grease in the wheel bearing assembly and dirt out..... i wouldnt like to run without them fitted as first off it will sling the grease out.... then let water/ dirt in and ultimately lead to premature wear of the rear wheel bearings

The wee cap thing on the Rear Drums is to protect the hub.
Take your wheels off & get a hammer, give the wee cap a tap & it then shouldn't be petruding, causing you problems.

Like dlightswitch said I've taken mine off and it's been about 3-4 months and haven't had any problems. Anyone know what grease is in there or I could use to top up if any is lost next time I check?

only time you should get grease in is if bearing is bust, it should be sealed in

There is a difference between necessary and recommended.

Imagine how silly having 4 would look!


I kid, I kid, they are cool.


But tbh I'd rather just run spacers on the rear wheels to clear the caps, there can't be much in it?

About 5mm.

Don't worry, still on the cards, just got a few priorities that come first before I know how much spending money I'm gonna have left.

Will put the caps back on when I get the spacers.

Don't know whether to fit 20mm or 15mm spacers yet though, got to get out and measure the clearance.

Its semi open though, I want to put some more in on the bearing, to make sure they dont go.

Dave means generally, because none of the grande puntos have them on the front just on the back.

It will be fine mate to take them off just check water can't easily get through the center cap.

ive ran without them for 4months now and all fine, no water or mud will get in there because the gaps closed between the wheel and hub

Well thats what I thought, with centre caps and spigot rings its pretty hard for water to get in there.

Doesn't matter now anyway, I just trimmed my centre caps down, they're all on Happy days.
