Hi everyone,

Just wanted to pick your brains again, is it possible to fit a dump valve to my Bravo 1.9 td!

Cheers for the help

You can but it won't have any effect. :)

The purpose of a dump valve is to dump turbo pressure when you shut the throttle butterfly so that the turbo keeps spinning. (otherwise the air has nowhere to go and the turbo stalls) Diesels don't have a throttle butterfly, all that happens when you press the pedal is it injects more fuel.

Diesel turbos never stall like petrol ones cos there is in throttle butterfly to get in the way.

Your best bet for more power is to fit one of those TD tuning boxes. Supposedly they work quite well, 20-30% more power.

It won't on a diesel. :) It will never actually open.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Can I do this>?

Cant get them on diesels, Although they do sound fantastic on petrol turbos mmmmmmm

Cheers for the help people, saves me wasting money on something that wont work on the car.

Thanks once again

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Can I do this>?

yes it will make a noise, my brothers 306td has a dump valve on and it dumps same as any other turbo car. turbo diesels already have one on but it dumps the waste gases into the exhaust system instead of the atmosphere as petrol cars do. but the answer is yes u can fit one and it will make a noise but wont increase any areas of performance.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Can I do this>?

Umm.. how can it ever operate? Diesels have EGR valves which are operated by the ECU, not by manifold pressure.

A dump valve works cos the output pressure of the turbo sky-rockets when you shut the throttle, essentially blocking the path of the air. There is no throttle on a diesel so you will never get this happening.

yeah woteva

Uh huh.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Can I do this>?

Tom I don't know how thay work either. All I can tell you is I've heard one on a 306 TD and they do work.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Can I do this>?

It must be controlled by the ECU, I have a TD aswell with a boost guage on and it never peaks like a petrol turbo.

To clear this up

I have been in a deisel with a noisy valve, BUT the valve was designed to be noisy - lets face it if there is a market to be had then people are going to use it - even if it is a vavle designed to make and release its own pressure, they probably claim it puts your bhp up by 300 aswell - lol.

Re: Is it yes or no guy's

Why do you want to fit a dump valve to your TD?

dump valves

yes dump valve will make a noise on a desiel as i have fitted dump valves to five different 306 turbo desiels and they all work and sound the same as petrol turbos but you do have to rev abit more, to get it to work.
but you wont get any performance increases, but the sound makes it worth while.

Cheers

Hi,

Just want it for the sound really, thanks matt for finally putting me right.
Now my question is how much m i looking at for one of these?

Cheers
