So, after rebuilding my Doblos 1.4 8v VVC engine, I cleaned out the VVC solenoid as it was full of grime, put the engine back together and was getting P0016 EML come up, so, I took it out and cleaned it again then put it back together, the engine will idle perfectly, smooth as silk, bring the RPM up to 4500-5000 and let it drop again and it sounds like a diesel, after a period of time it then brings this code back up, turn it off, reset the codes and it goes back to sounding as it should, and will be fine for a random length of time and then throw the could up and go into limp mode. I have replaced the solenoid with a brand new one and, you guessed it, it's done it again, it has been fine all the time between me fitting it and now, when it goes in for it's MOT and it throws the bloody EML up, and, yup, it's P0016.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I have missed???

God I miss static valve timing. Give me a P75 1242 anyday.

Possible vvt sprocket faulty?
Did you use the special crank /cam timing tools when fitting timing belt?

Yes, I bought a special kit when doing it specifically for this engine, it seems to have fixed itself for now. All I did was remove the valve, check it was clean, which it was, reset the codes, I have been driving it around for three days now and done around 50 miles and it seems to be fine now. Maybe there was air in the system that has bled out now.
