Hi I have just got a 1988 fiat ducato eldiss autosratus camper and I'm just wondering could anyone tell me what type of roof surface should it have, it seems to have a felt type stuff layed on top of a aluminium roof, could anyone tell me is this correct or is the felt some thing that some one has added to it. Thanks

Hi,:)
do you mean its a coachbuilt Elldis motorhome body,
with an white painted alloy skin,
then has FELT where..?? just on the TOP / roof, or somewhere else..?

Charlie

Ya it's coachbuilt and it has a alloy skin, but it's like some one has put some sort of felt on the roof, I am just wondering is this original or something that has been done to it at a later date, thanks for getting back to me

Thanks for that, so they don't come with anything like that on them

I had a similar age Swift Ducato m-home,
it had a BIG plastic "paddling-pool" on the rear of roof,
so you could stand / store kit up there.

there MAY have been options with Elddis,

but this forum isn't really the best place for 30 year old camper info,
if you look in 1990's and 80's posts in the Ducato section - bottom of FF homepage..,
you'll see links to other - more relevant sites, ;)

for this era and make of van you may find talbotOC forum useful full of knowledge for your vehicle. to answer your question i would suspect its been added to rectify a leaking roof.

Just to add I have just had to do this on mine to prevent leaks it is similar to or the same as Chromapol Acrylic sealant paint. Mine had been leaking for years a)with holes from the roof rack b) bird droppings rotting the bare ally.Ken
