Hi, new to this forum and need advise please, my cambelt has just snapped or come off not sure which yet, it is a fiat uno 1.0 IE start.
What i need to know is, is my engine an non interference or interference type, i have searched the forum but can't find anything on this model of car.

yeah will be non-contact engine, so just fit a new belt/tensioner on and away you go (y)

:yeahthat:

The 8v FIRE engines are 'safe' engines. As Beau says, no damage will be done to the valves or pistons. Only thing to really check is what made the cambelt snap in the first place? If it was just old then fit a new one. If it is a recently belt then check that the pulleys/ water pump aren't causing issues. Also make sure that there aren't any oil leaks as oil will cause the belt rubber to deteriorate.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, am i best to go to fiat for the bits, and what sort of price are we looking at for belt and tensioners?

Welcome.

Anywhere but Fiat really :) Perhaps try shop4parts online. Think there is a link in our discounts section.

Where are you from? May be local enough for one of us to stop by and time up / pop the belt on.

To add to the above, make sure the belt tensioner is replaced too :)

Think I have a spare new belt and tensioner fro the 999cc. can't see me suing the belt as the car is being broken for spares :(
