I'm trying to change timing belt (& water pump).
I'm trying to fit the cam lock tool, the bolt holes are misaligned as in photo.
What am I doing wrong?

been doing a bit more reading and I suspect need to turn the crank pulley to rotate the camshaft until the locking tool fits
as in this DIY

puzzling why repair manual shows to fit the cam locking tool first

this video of 1.4L multiair engine already has both locking tools in place
timing belt bit starts at 29:55
he doesn't really explain how he got them on

in these old blurry videos (part1 and part 2), the locking tools just slip on, all alignment holes line up perfectly
he puts on the crankshaft locking tool first
and then locks the cam second
which is the reverse sequence of what's in the repair manual

this guy does the cam lock first, it is probably the best video
not sure why it didn't come up when I searched earlier (maybe as it has Alfa in title, not Fiat)

there's other alfa videos

this italian guy explains stuff well

one of these days I'll get the courage to give it another go
