Just as I was pondering about having my cam cover powder coated, the car seems to have made it's mind up. It's leaking oil from the cam cover gasket (i think), means the cover will have to come off. Anyone know how traumatic a job this is and if the gaskets are easy enough to source? Cost?

Cheers (y)

pi$$ easy job, all allen bolts, plus 2 on the cam cover. I had polished mine but it was high maintainance so hence the red now - halfrauds high temp red matt

Ok I get a bit panicy when tinkering with the engine - paranoid that I'm going to break it.

While the cam cover is off what should I do with the exposed cams? Cover them in cloth? I don't fancy getting dust or water or even worse grit in the rocker box.

The cam cover is now in the bathtub! Sarah's going to kill me :D Didn't realise there were 4 seals for the spark plug holes... They seemed sealed ok so they might be fine to go back. Getting the cover off was interesting - took a lot of levering and persuading. Have cleaned the cover with Gunk but its still mucky looking so its gonna get painted... Unsure of what colour to go though.

can also buy engine enamel to brush on in many colours. goes rock hard with engine heat and being enamel, is very hard and solvent and grease/oil resistant. make sure you rub the cam cover down and "key" it with sone 800 wet and dry or a brush in a drill. then wipe with spirits to remove any grease. yu can cover engine with old towel or blanket.:) (y)
