Was looking at brakes for my car Bravo HGT the other day and noticed in Halfords that they had these

http://www.reddotonline.co.uk/product.aspx?productid=625

For under 50 quid cant remember the exact price, and noted them down in case they fitted my HGT, they dont but fit cars shown on site.

Now i can go in and see if they have any more left if anyone was after some. And could post, obviously they weigh a ton! But as they cost £130 normally i'm sure it'd be worth it!

Well post back or have a look in your local store just in case, there were only a few boxes left. I'd want to make a wee bit on top to cover costs/time and pay a bit towards my sadly not reduced ones!

i'll be going by Halfords tomorrow afternoon or evening so post if you want some.

Will these fit straight on the jtd, no need for new calipers?

Stu

As far as i am aware:

Fiat Boo
Reddotracing
and
Angel Tunning

All say they fit with no mention of conversions etc.

XR - 20 Groove Disc
The 20 groove range of discs, available for most road vehicles, deglaze the pad and vent gasses that build up between disc and pad during braking. As a result brake fade is significantly reduced. The additional slots dissipate heat more effectively giving an increase in performance than the XJ range.

Suitable for road and light competition use.

Will be going tomorrow or tonight as didnt get to bed till 10am.

So let us know by email - campbellbarclay (at) hotmail dot com

I have the 6 groove version on my JTD.
Was going a bit too fast towards a speed snapper on A1 today and nearly dislodged my underwear when I stepped on them. So much better than the stock FIAT jobs.

In terms of stopping power the more grooves you have the worse they get.

Pads make the biggest difference, not the discs.

Tom why so cynical on disc technology? Yea i know you could argue less surface are is in contact with the disc, but do the gasses not build up in standard ones and create a cushion. After all they say that they can stop you X% faster etc, and they have to prove that. I agree that pads are the most important item, but surely disc thechnology isnt all complete ********!

I forgot to mention i got the pads at the same time.
Still so much better than the stock FIAT version.

There is no 'technology' about those discs. They are normal cast iron discs just like the really cheap no-name ones you get from motor factors.

They just cut a few grooves in them and multiply the price by 5 as they know people will buy them.

As for being cynical, I've lost count of the numbers of brake discs, pads, hoses, fluids etc.. I've been through. And I still end up with flat faced discs.

A brand new set of discs and pads will ALWAYS be better than a worn out set. No matter if its standard replacements or not.

Some interesting stuff here:

Its illegal for them to make claim's that cant be backed up. And a said the difference is really at higher than legal road test speeds.

If we're all good boys and girls and stay under the limit then its down to tyres. But are we good boys and girls?.... on a track of course ;)

Anyhow for less money than a normal set of discs you can have 20 groove ones, i just posted as i saw a bargain in Halfords. I got a friend to go in tonight and he though they were £25 for the discs it was £47 for the pads.

I'm sure you cant buy even unipart ones for that price.

They can make whatever claims they like, true or not. They will say whatever it takes to make you buy their products rather than someone elses.

You can have a set of normal discs for HALF the price of those :)

I used to have reddot 6 grooves, now I have gone back to £6/disc plain discs. The bite is the same but far less noise.

The pad makes the difference, not the disc.

Seriously, where do you get discs for £6 a disc? Even for my punto i;ve never paid less than £35 for a set from partco etc.

mine were £24 for the pair from a parts dealer!

pads i got from same guy were **** though and thats saying something considering the car came with EBC greenstuff pads on (i dont recommend these. they dont give of dust, which is great, but they dont brake as hard as stock pads) I should have known to stick to mintex or ferrodo or tarox pads. lesson learned :)
