Hi there pple. im new here and i just wana ask about the Fiat Bravo 2.0 HGT. Ne1 got one here. i want to buy one but just read the buying advice and sort of put me off one! Can ne1 give me sum info and tell me why i shud buy one. Thks.

Hi
I bought a 155HGT in Nov 04.
After owning various fiats including Punto, Bravo & Marea, It is the model/engine combination I always wanted but could never afford.

I can honestly say it is the only car I have ever driven that constantly puts a smile on my face.

The star of the show is the engine, which allied with good performance sounds fantastic.

Drive down the road with windows down, rear flanks in mirrors, listening to that 5 cylinder engine. It will make you feel good about life!!

There are faster cars & people quite rightly rave about the JTD Bravos, but they do not sound like the HGT.
In my humble opinion, a special car.

I have to agree with Neil about the sound that is created by that engine. I've been seriously trying to work out what to install sound wise in my HGT since buying it but I realised today that the only time i have music playing is when I'm in a traffic queue.

With open roads ahead of me I do tend to get those windows down a bit and just revel in the growling sounds it makes. I almost laughed at a post someone else in here made about how you can always tell the sound of a HGT thinking he was talking ****** but it's true.

I can't wait to sort myself out with a new custom exhaust since I hear that it enhances the tone from the engine without making it sound like one of those twats with a big bore that is as large as some peoples houses.

Anyway yep insurance wise it's a whole 7 groups higher than my old motor. I'm doing just about half the amount of miles per gallon than my old car could muster, most i've managed so far is 330 miles to a tank but on average 250 miles is returned (ahem heavy shoes & I travel 90 miles to work & back every day). Currently there are a couple of squeaky bits interior wise but I will track them down & fix soon enough.

Am I happy at owning a HGT?

You bet your ass I am :)

I'll try and keep this brief..
(@the members will either be laughing or asleep already!..:) )

I had a 1.6 Brava (not too disimilar to the bravo) then I had decided to buy a Bravo 1.8 after having test driven one. Then, the day I was supposed to collect my HLX, I went to check out a HGT. I've been possesed ever since!

I never had any interest in cars what so ever before I got my HGT. The only way you'll know if you want an HGT, is if you drive one. So long as it's been looked after, it'll look after you. I paid 4K for mine. You could offer me 14K now and I wouldn't take it!

Hope you find a goodun (if it dosn't find you!)

drive one and you will be smiling... i never ever thought i would own a HGT!! i had 2 HLX's before and was never gonna get the HGT!!!

The only reson why i got one is because i found one with a blown engine for £600!!and because i am handy with a set of tools i fitted an engine for £200,,,i drove it once, then i was hooked...i was planning on selling it on becasue insurance at 19 is killing me...but i would rather work the extra hours to keep her! :)

cant live without it..

the great thing i always said about the HGT, is that it allowes you to drive either like a maniac with a big dumb grin on your face, or like a civilized person. enjoying the ride and comfort.

that combination exists in very few cars [civic type R] although the civic is not comfy at all. anyway, i own a 97 HGT since 2001 and i just cant bring myself to sell it.

i even had in my hands a fiat coupe 20vt BUT i just hate turbos and i think the bravo is more special.. [sorry turbo lovers]...

really like all here have said.. the grrrrrrrrrrr the engine makes is worth every bloody penny...

run it in an underground parking lot with the window down.. its truely orgazmic..
just fantastic..

Re: cant live without it..

Just looking at the above comments made i feel i must express a more 'constructive' opinion on the HGT.

i own a 99V reg 155HGT .

Plus points:
* Engine sounds better than any 4 cylinder. Doesnt sound as good as a six though. Dont expect Audi 20V quattro levels of sound quality.
* Has the straight line performance to kill Saxo VTS, Mondeo ST24, Golf Mk4 1.8 turbo (all experiences of mine).
* Quite rare (or did Fiat just not sell many?)
* Well enough built
* Fuel consumption quite good.
* Alot of car for the money.
* Its got soul.

Downers:
* Poor handling on b-roads. Way too much body roll for such a firm ride and way too nose heavy (damn that engine). Every little blemish on the road surface can be felt. The 1.6 model handles better imo!
* quite expensive to run (cambelt change minimum is around £400inc Vat. New non-genuine oil filter is £10.50 +Vat!)
* seats dont hug enough.
* unimpressive brakes.

Re: hgt!

Nah mate its the burgandy one with the nice 18's on it. I was lukin at the one u mentioned but those wheels just luk naff! Collecting the car on Monday! Yipeeeeeeeeee!:)

Re: cant live without it..

I can go from 100-0 faster than I can get from 0-30 in my 1.2.

Exaggeration maybe, but my brakes are damn decent!

Re: cant live without it..

Thats 'cos it only got a toy engine compared to the HGT.

Re: cant live without it..

Think you missed my point there mr. anonymous.

I'm talking about the brakes, not the engine.

Re: cant live without it..

Think you missed my point also, your brakes only have to stop a lil' 4 pot engine, the HGT is MUCH heavier. Personally i have found HGT brakes to be very good indeed. Other models however seemed rather lacking.

Re: cant live without it..

"Exaggeration maybe.."

What, you ?

Never !! ??
