Stuck a new one in and it did the same in a few minutes. Also the Fuel & Temp gauge go to max the minute you turn the ignition on. Any ideas?

Jun 10, 2015 #2 it sounds like the main earth cable has shot it. everything is trying to earth the shell to the engine.. though for an alternator to burn out, that does require a direct short to ground... hmmmm do the jump lead trick.. one going from battery negative to shell, then one going to the shell to the engine.

Jun 13, 2015 #4 the marbella i had, had this problem.. it was the main positive cable earthing out to the body causing it to put the alternator to full current mode. make sure that the battery is not tall enough to be earthing out on the bodywork, then look for chafed cables
