General Bump Stop .... Replacement Part Advice

Hi,

Bump stops shot away and I suppose need replacing.

I’ve had a look on the web (and eBay) and there seem to be a few variations so I’m not sure which is going to be a suitable replacement to give the same (or improved) characteristics to the original.


Anyone got experience of this or know the original part number?

There was a thread about this not too long ago. I think there was a mention of spring assistors for a Ducato Maxi on ebay being a good fit. Search the forum and see.

Haven`t got the part No to hand, but if it helps I got mine from a Fiat Dealer,

not too expensive compared with Ebay and sometimes cheaper. Oh here we

go, found paperwork

Also known as a Wick. Part No from Fiat for 05 plate 55 1.9JTD =

F0046817717 @ £31.24 Each.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

There’s a plethora of shapes, sizes and materials available as well as part numbers and what they are called (Is it “Bump Stops” “Spring Assisters” “Wick” or “Buffer end stops”?). All of which claim to fit the Doblo.

Although the genuine Fiat ones are a bit more expensive they should have the right specification, though they don’t seem to last very well.

I am going to replace the rear bump stops on my Dobbie. As the rear height is very low would changing spring assistors at the same time be a good idea ?

Any help would be appreciated !

They are the same thing. What look like bump stops are called spring assistors by fiat.

Ah i see, thanks Robin. Would the Grayston ones be the best for an upgrade ? i carry a bit of weight in my 02 plate 1.9 JTD.

I may have misinterpreted your post. There are two different types of spring assister!

The attached files above show two different items, that are both called spring assisters, rather confusingly!

The rubber cone is what Fiat call a spring assister or wick (depending on the technician you are speaking with). The rest of us call it a bump stop.

The pdf file shows a grayston spring assister, which is a coiled spring that is inserted between the bump stop and the leaf spring to raise the rear height on a doblo.

If you want more height the grayston product appears ok, although your suspension should be able to handle loads up to the max weight specified in the manual.

The Fiat part (available on ebay) will help to make the rear suspension feel a bit more planted if the originals are worn. They are easily replaced. These items are prone to wear through their design.

you're welcome mate. I bet i've done 10k on mine & with all the mechanics tools & car key cutting equipment i have my van always has a bit of weight in the back
