Well, I am excited to report from New Zealand that I have just paid a deposit on a new to me project that I think has a lot of potential!
It's a partly built sports car, chassis and some mechanical parts only, no body at all. A VERY well respected New Zealand car builder was building this when he passed away in 2008. It is basically as he left it back then after going through a number of owners who only tinkered with the project. The builder was Peter Bruin who worked for Mclaren and build a lot of car chassis back in the day, this one is number 54.
It is powered by a 2300 OHV Fiat straight 6 from the 1961 on era,(that has been bored to 2400), a 5 speed gearbox from a Fiat 125, comes with Rover diff (that the builder was going to use) and a Datsun diff the current owner thought might be better. De Dion rear end with torsion bars, front has transverse leaf spring and knee action dampers. No dampers I can see fitted to the rear.
The body is one of the big questions.... at the moment my thoughts are to build a FIAT version of the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante from 1952.... as if Fiat had built it to compete with the Alfa... so NOT a replica but a car inspired by the disco shapes.... and yellow not red as all 4 Discos are red! To look like it was built in say 1955?
Wire wheels..... lots the think about and plan!
Ideas welcome!

The current plan, that might change, is to build a car as if in 1955, Fiat built a prototype to rival the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante. (flying saucer)
So base the car on the Disco's styling BUT not a replica but a Fiat version of that style.... I would make the body in fiber glass as that I can do easily. Colour would be yellow as all Alfa Discos are red. No roof, pure speedster "race car for the road" feel, bare basics of creature comforts. Based on the looks of this car.....
