is the 'chrome' finish actual chrome plating, or is it a chrome effect paint buffed to a shine??

personally i'd be returning to the dealers if the cars still under warrenty.

It appears to be chrome plated plastic. I have been doing a bit of research online tonight and it would appear that bubbling in chrome when its plated onto plastic is caused by the plastic not being etched properly before the chrome plating is applied.

WTF? Firstly it's ONE car and secondly it's not the bumper.
On my 1 yr old 500 both front and rear bumper inserts are bubbling up. I know we've had a hard winter but it is not aceptable that the chrome cannot last one winter. Whats it going to be like after 3?. I will be popping into the local dealer very soon to get this sorted!!!!!

Yes but saying they'll have to recall them is a load of bullpoop. Do you clean your car regularly? If not then it'll happen again and again and again. If you're chucking it through a car was or using a sponge then you're going to get scratches in the end and that will cause bubbling.

The chrome is designed for outside use and should not really need regular washing just to stop it bubbling. Maybe it's just a faulty batch, although you would not expect the front & back necessarily to be from the same batch.
Whilst we are on the subject of crappy bits, both my 100hp and 500 rear badges are showing signs of de-laminating/fading. We don't get huge amounts of sun and one is kept in the garage.

My 500 chrome is bubbling up too. Did anyone have any joy from the dealer fixing under warranty??

i nominate this thread as "anal thread of the year" :ROFLMAO:

a few words of wisdom from a long term Fiat owner

  • bits of trim fall off, degrade and generally start to look a bit tatty round the edges after a few years
  • think of it as character, the nature of the beast
  • designed in Italy, made in Poland from recycled Polski Fiats

if such trival matters get you all ocd you should have bought a German or Japanese car...

defo not, and the dealer will happily resolve that if requested (y)

lol, that's what I'm hoping, although I sometimes wonder at my dealership

Went there last week to get them to fix the Blue&Me again, I mentioned about the bubbling. The 'helpful' receptionist stated the chap that deals with bodywork issues was out for the day. I asked if anyone in the dealership could take a photo to be told the camera wasn't available. Almost with split-second timing, a chap walked past me with a camera in his hand about to take a pic of a damaged Corsa parked outside.

Oh the fun I had, but still didn't get anywhere and was advised to take a pic myself and send it in. A well-worded email has gone to the Manager.
