Ive still got the smell of unburnt fuel in the cabin, read on the Punto forums that the 1.2 suffers with cracks on the breather hose and as ive had it off to change the air filter over christmas its a good place to start.
Any other Panda owners suffered with it?

Unburnt fuel smell doesn't usually come from a split breather, usually will be a burnt/hot oil smell from a split breather.

to be honest ive only recently noticed it ( well a work mate smelt it out side the car first) and its worse when the weathers cold.
If you ever had a old mini it smells like that. The only thing ive done recently is have the airbox off and wiped the throttle body over so im wondering if 'that' joining hose is the issue.

Yea could be, it's a bit tricky to connect the hose and get the air filter box lined up at the same time. Have a quick peek under the air box and make sure the pipe is pushed 'fully home'.
The tell tale sign if the breather hose is split is oil or oil mist around where the pipe joins onto the head.
Worth having a sniff around the fuel filler cap area too just for eliminations sake?

Just read another post on here and looks like you could have a fuel tank breather pipe split, it smells of petrol when the tank is full, it's next to the main filler tube under the rear wheel arch

14 plate 1.2 Lounge: My petrol tank breather hose has a hole/split and leaks fuel if fully filled. I’ve ordered a replacement hose from Fiat but wondered about fitting it. Has anyone fitted one? Is it easy and do you have any tips? Thanks in advance.

Hi. :)

Clean off all the local mud.etc

Then free off the clips.. they are the best type.. so reusing them should be ok

Only done it on punto but the principle will be identical.

Yeah im hoping so, am i right in thinking that that pipe sends all the unburnt vapours back into the engine to be reburned?
Not so much unburnt vapours but the crankcase vapours.
Its perfectly normal for a very small amount of combustion to get past the piston and into the crankcase, it's this burnt combustion (amongst minute other things like a very small amount of oil mist) that gets put back through the combustion process via that pipe and then back into the intake.

If these vapours didnt go back in the engine and the pipe was not connected would the ecu overcompensate fuel thinking theirs more air in the engine than there actually was?
Yes 100% correct. The crankcase ventilation system should be a closed system to be working correctly. Having the pipe off would allow pure air to be drawn into the manifold causing hesitation when driving, a lumpy tick over and poor fuel economy
