Break Down - Help Needed!

Last night I was driving along Motorway. As I went to come off the slip road two red warning lights came on on the Dash, the handbreak warning light and the brake pad warning light.

As I tried to change gears I couldnt, I was stuk in fourth gear and couldnt change at all.

After I managed to pull up at the side of the road, I tried to restart the car, but cant get into gear, the car starts and the engine ticks over, but it wont let me put it into gear.

If I try to start the engine in gear, it wont start at all.

I had somewhat of a similar problem a while ago, turned out to be the master clutch cylinder. The car would completely stick in gear (in my case, it stuck in reverse). The car wouldn't start in gear because the clutch wouldn't dis-engage, so it would jump forward and splutter.

Is it something like this that is happening to you?

This is almost certainly the clutch cylinder.Check the brake fluid level, bet there is none in or it's very low. fell under the battery tray for leaks from slave cylinder

check your brake fluid, resevoir is probably empty, your clutch master cylinder has probably gone, or the pipe down to it split/leaking, can you see brake fluid on the gear box, or follow the hard pipe from brake fluid resevoir right then down to cylinder on top of gearbox

happenned to me on the way to college once,

if your careful, you shoudl be able to start it in gear then chanage gears without clutch if you get the revs right!

Checked the Brake Fluid and it was indeed empty last ngiht.

It has been going down very quickly since I changed my brake pads a month ago.

I had a small amount which never even filled it a quarter of the way.

WEalked to a petrol station (was midnight) they never had any brake fluid, spoke to the woman behind the counter who suggested putting in Clutch Oil?????

But I need to buy brake fluid and fill it up, would that then allow me to drive the car?

and where will it be leaking from?

my first though if you changed the brake pads and its been goign down since then it soemthgin to do with that!

did you open up the nipple to bleed the brakes? maybe that isnt done up tight? although i woudl have thought you'd notice not as much braking power?

other than that look for wet spots on your drive ( hard in this weather i know!) or wet places in engine bay liek battery tray etc.

whip front wheels off and get some one to press hard on the brakes, see if you can see any dripping out?

you will almost certainly need to bleed them again anyway if the resevoir has emptied totally.




another thing maybe one of the rear brake cylinders gone? is it wet/oilly on the iside of your rear wheel either side?
