Hi there

Ok so I have been having trouble with my t-jet, no power whatsoever, only goes to 70 mph and engine management light is on.

Took it to a local garage who ran a diagnostic check on it and came back to me and said that the turbo wastegate was seized open (sure they said open rather than closed).

As yet I haven't commited to any repairs but was hoping I could free it up myself with a little messing about and loads of GT85.

So anyone able to offer me some wisdom on this and how I might be able to solve this myself ??

Cheers

Yeah you probably just need a new spring in the wastegate actuator although If it's fompletely failing you will probably need a whole new one. What's happening is it's stuck open or the spring is too weak to hold it closed and is causing the turbo pressure to escape rather than go into the engine. this effectively means you're running a standard 1.4 with an engine that's running lean. Fix the actuator then you can run with power again. I'm not sure where to source an OEM one but you can buy aftermarket ones that cost a fortune but ca be altered for stiffness. (For when you're running higher boost after a remap or turbo swap) this is excessive and will cost about £140 so sourcing a standard one will probably save you a lot of money.

When I got the disgnostic check done the mechanic actually said he had got it going again and ir probably went a mile *engine light off and seemed to have power back*. So whatever he did it wasnt like he went into depth with it, he just did me a favour and got it goin again with a few "tweaks".
That would suggest that with a bit of work and tlc it could be brought back again....what you reckon?.....you know how it is, garages and parting with loads of cash unecessarily makes me nervous ;)

Just to revisit this......wasn't my wastegate ....seems there was a wire broken somewhere , anyway it was connected back up and my turbo is working again :)
I am back to loving mt t-jet once more.
Treated my car to full oil and filter change as well as an air filter change.
