Hello all,

Such a good site this! Ive just bought a 1998 bravo 12v 1.4 and I really do like it. Such a stylish, and comfortable car! Three really quick questions though:

1. What MPG can I expect in city driving. Im currently getting about 300miles a tank, which I think works out at about 32 but Im not quite sure (Ive no manual so Im not sure of the tank size!).

2. I have a warning light sporadically appearing on my dash. Its similar to the handbrake one (eg Circle with brackets and an ! in the middle) but its just a circle with broken brackets on either side. Should I be scared?

3. Ive driven a punto for the last two years so Im used to not having the lightest clutch ever. However, the clutch on the bravo does seem particularly heavy. Is this normal or would a new clutch reduce my left leg to below popeye levels?

Think thats it for now. Thanks in advance for your help all, and sorry if the questions are a bit thick!

All the consumption figures are on http://www.bravo-guide.co.uk/run-a-bravo

Dont be scared, its your front pads that are worn (or a short in the wires to the pad). Bravo pads are a very simple job to replace so do it now. http://www.bravo-guide.co.uk/fix-a-bravo

This isn't quite so straightforward! The clutch on the 1.4 I had was very light but the one on my HGT is like pumping lead. At the age of your car I would sugest trying a new cable first and cleaning all the components as you do it. After that, its a clutch specialist I am afraid.

Hope that helps.

I am a ****!

Sorry Pete, I forgot I hadnt uploaded the 1.4 figures for consumption! They are 24 Urban, 47 Extra Urban and an average of 30.

However you will probably get nearer 25mpg ..... which is why the engine was dropped for the 1.2 16v

Cheers

Re: I am a ****!

The handbrake warning light could mean that you have a leak in the master cylinder - apparently the clutch and the brake fluid are connected by one as I found out last month (after the clutch went).

Re: Re: I am a ****!

This one aint though. The handbrake on / brake fluid level low warning light is RED and is not a dashed line.

Re: Re: Re: I am a ****!

Thank you all indeed for your help. Really has filled in a few blanks for me!

One more question though, are the clutches on the Bravo cable or hydraulic clutches? Just seems incredibly heavy if its a hydraulic one. Was driving a nissan almera for a few weeks before I got the Bravo and I think my leg started to waste away it was so easy (the nissan)!

Thanks again, much appreciated.
