Right first thing first I have the problem with the idling being somewhat erratic. I have checked the bravo guide and found the write up. This doesn't say however if this is for a MKI or MKII. I know that the MKI is better for changing than the MKII. Can someone clear this up for me? Also what sort of price should I be paying for a MKII idle air control valve?

Secondly 2nd and 3rd gear virtually refuses to be changed into when going down the gear box. Fine going into 4th from 5th but when going into 3rd from that I have to be gong over 40 mph or under 20???
When I say refuse it goes in with a really bad grinding sound.
I presume this is the gearbox so how much would this cost for a rebuild??

Thirdly I am after getting a new exhaust from powerflow and was wondering what type of price I should expect for a system from the cat back. I fancy a dual exit one depending on the price.

Right that is enough of my bravo problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Re: Bravo Problems

Gearbox so bad with only 37k on it?

Get rid.

Rebulid about £350+, powerflow about the same. Hmm, that's 20% of the value of your car, maybe more.

Trade it in.

PS - has anyone read the JD Power Survet results on the Bravo?

Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

I would trade it in but what can compare to the style and sexyness of a bravo. I have wanted a bravo for 3 years and when I get one it is crap :(

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

Wiggy, willinghams had a brava in the scrap yard about 4 months ago, it was stripped for bits when i got there but if i remember rightly it still had its gearbox, make them an offer, if u could get a second hand one i am sure you could get a decent mecanic to fit it for a few £'s

although i am nott sure if there is issues regarding diffrent model/engine sizes and gearboxes, i am sure tom could help out on this, i personally can't see why there would be a massive problem.

ps. do you drive with your hand resting on the gear stick ?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

Yes I do sometimes, dont put a lot of weight on it but yeah

R U sure it's not a clutch problem? It sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging properly. (Check your mat isn't stopping the pedal going to the floor)

Re: Re: Bravo Problems

Well I wondered that but why would this only happen in 2 gears

Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

Just got a quote from powerflow and it is £260 inc vat and fitting for a cat back twin 3" exhaust.

Can anyone tell me how much a second hand gearbox will be and where I can get one from. I will be checking the local scrap yards later today.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

Gear selection problems can be caused by low gearbox oil, and can be improved by changing the oil for e.g. synthetic.
Also being a bit slower in changing gear may be enough!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

I have just had the car serviced and the gearbox oil level was good and good quality.

I just got a quote from a scrappys for a second hand one for 225 plus 15 for delivery :( only has a 90 day warranty as well.

This this is a job for after christmas, it is not like the car is undriveable just when you are travelling at the 'wrong' speed :p

i just love fiats

rebuild

my gearbox went on my r plate 1.4 sx and it cost me £550 for the gearbox but it blow my clutch and other things wen it went costin £1050...get it done b4 it goes and keep the bravo there so much fun

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

regarding your troubles with the idling, i have been all through this with mine.
Mk2's have the idle valve connected directly onto the throttle body and there is no way to remove it for cleaning without the risk of damaging it. Fortunatly my car was under warranty and i had the throttle body replaced free of charge.
It is caused by the crankcase breather pipe, the oily fumes clogging the valve up.
As soon as i got the throttle body replaced i disconnected the crancase breather pipe and put a filter on there to stop it happening again.
I kept the old part for my dad to have a look at it to see if there is a way around it but it doesnt look like there is. Your looking at £250 for a new one.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo Problems

Thanks for that I dont think that will get done during my ownership of the car. I can live with it and it has seemed to get better now the new exhaust is on. This may just be me thinking that because the old exhaust used to rattle.

Cheers on the reply

The gearbox problem is most likely a worn syncromesh as this is a common fault with the tipo gearbox that most bravo's, brava's use, not a lot of point in replacing it with one from a scrappy as this could have the same problem, get it refurbished, should cost around £300 inc vat from a reputable garage
