Been a week now and I'm getting the distinct impression my garage has no clue whats wrong

1) cambelt change
2) alt belt snaps 200 miles later
3) car wont start, engine granks but wont engage
4) garage change alt and cambelt, claim alt belt pulley was jammed
5) car wont start still, as above
6) supersprint ecu won't read
7) supply garage with origianl ecu and red key incase required
8) still no joy

whats wrong with my car?

they got 8 hrs to sort it before i drive to brooklands :(

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like grandpa, not screaming like the passengers in his car!

WTF is a supersprint ECU?

The obvious questions are:
Is there spark?
Is there fuel?
Is the cambelt on CORRECTLY?

sorry chianti addled brain

superchip

1)yes there is spark as it cranks
2)yes there is fuel
3)damn good question

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like grandpa, not screaming like the passengers in his car!

1) good
2) usually helps
3) pint says its that ;)

It does not take much for it not to run.

so for example, alt belt goes, bites into cambelt, wraps inside and it jumps a tooth, engine now won't start.
the monkey in the garage chalks up the cam, whips off old belt and puts the new one on in the same position....

likely?

Bet you its jumped, you can't take it for granted that it didn't.

2 teeth out and they run like ****.

I remember there was a guy who posted that his cambelt was four teeth out and his Bravo still ran..

and I remember Tom's reaction too, lol.

Yeah, now that was a ****ing miracle! Any more and it would have been piston vs valve and piston ALWAYS wins.

Piston Vs Valve

I had that situation piston wone!!! more worrying though was the condition of the valves that wernt damaged!! they were quite coked up and the seals were in bad shape for 70k. Got new seals set for whole engine took 4 hours to bed all 16 new valvs i hate valve grinding paste!!!!

Re: Piston Vs Valve

At 70k I'd expect that, valve stem seals last about a year :)

You actually need some oil down the valve stem to help conduct heat away from the exhaust valves and lubricate the stem in the guide.
