bravo JTD 105 gearbox

ok got clutch fitted and it drives, and feels so much better than it did, (you can floor it in low revs now with out a horrible judder!!)

so only problem left now is there is a slight whine when your in 4th as it winds through, which apparently means its on its way.

so my question is this, is there a performance gearbox, or a 6 speed box that will fit? or can anyone recomend what box i should get?

ok ive just been told from the fiat forum that a 6 speed gearbox from an alfa romeo 156 jtdm16v would fit as its the same block??


does anyone else know about this? or have any thoughts?

Gearbox

If it was the bravo SX then I would say put the punto gearbox in as that will make a difference but am un sure about the JTD.

it is the 105sx JTD not sure if i could fit? im intreaged as for this alfa box as according to this guy on the fiat forum it will improve accelleration, be stronger, and it has 6 gears.

but i know the likes of Scotty etc has looked into all this before so just seeing what can be done??

oh and for the record the whiring noise has completely stopped now, although it seems quite snaggy on putting it into gear, (always has to be honest)

Right ok, alfa forum were as good use as a chocolate fire guard.

but this chap on the fiat forum with an alfa seems 100% that the JTD is the same engine lump?

even though its off a JTDm16V and ours (as ive only just learnt thanks to buzz and tommy k for this one that the JTD105 is a 8v) but apparently it will still fit??

all you need is the selector and the gear linkage and the box??


anyone want to coment on this as im quite baffled now really i dont know whether to go for it or not as if it doesnt fit its a lot of pennys to only have to send it back and then get a new box and then get that fitted??

so i want to be sure before i go gearbox hunting!

I don't know enough about gearing but I suspect it is developed with the engine dynamics in mind. The Alfa unit will be 130 - 150 BHP and as such will need totally differnt gearing to the 105 BHP 8v engine.
I might be barking up the wrong one but its something to consider.
A 6 speed box is available from a Punto JTD 1.9 you'd be better off with that I suspect - cheaper and much more readily available.

'd probably go with the punto box, as its likely to give beter acceleration than the alfa one. Thats if it even comes close to fitting. I have no idea.

well this guy owns a 156 alfa and seems to know his alfa's.

i didnt realise they did a 6 speed box for the JTD punto.

but next question is, is the punto 1.9JTD the same engine to the bravo??


also i know alfa is fiat and vica versa but wouldnt alfa bits be better? (to try avoid the Fixing it again tomorrow issues lol)

Neither did I until I did a search for it. Its likely to be the new shape Punto, not Grande Punto. Have a look on ebay and see if anyone is breaking a diesel after 2003.
Failure is not built into parts (as far as I know) and if they (FIAT & Alfa) share the same suppliers then the only difference is the performance (same 2.4 JTD used, Alfa variant has more output, Marea doesn't) and appearance of the finished product.
