The diff looks like it has self-destructed and exited through a hole in the casing. Does this mean a complete new gearbox or is the diff assembly a separate unit?

This happened to me

Hi,

This happened to me about 15 months ago. The diff crumbled and ended up in the gearbox causing a 'ticking' sound. I had to get a new gear box and diff unit, but was able to source a reconditioned unit.

The person who fixed it for me was Jon at Mr Clutch in Portsmouth - 023 9283 7377. Although I live in London, I took it to him because he is extremely honest and a fantastic mechanic. He even taught me how to do certain bits and pieces (ie change a cam-belt) so I didn't have to spend money getting it done.

I suggest that anyone who has a problem with their car pays him a visit. What you spend in petrol to get there, you will get back two-fold both in price and the lack of hastle. Call him and tell him Ryan says hi.
