Bravo 1.8 HLX - won't start and alarm beeps intermittently

My Bravo 1.8 HLX - won't start and alarm beeps intermittently. Red interior alarm light is flashing as well, but turning the key in the ignition gives absolutely no response. Am really puzzled - I assume the battery can't be totally flat or else there would be no juice to beep the alarm! But turning the key, I don't get any warning lights on the dashboard coming on or anything - no response at all. Repeated tries to stop it with the key remote control give no result.

Have turned off the alarm at the fuse box switch - the beeping has stopped, but still no response whatso ever on turning the key in the ignition.

If it is a dead battery, would this make the alarm beep? I guess I'll have to get the AA out, but am worried they'll then have to tow it to a fiat garage who will charge me an arm and a leg to sort the alarm system out......

any ideas or thoughts much appreciated!

Not much help but when my red alarm light on my 1.8 HLX flashed it was when i turned the key on in the ignition, then turned it back off then turned it back on, then off. When it flashed the car wouldn't start. So i just took the key out and then put it back and then it started.

It also flashed when the battery was dying a slow death.

Have you removed the fuse box cover under the steering wheel and turned off the alarm there?

The alarm on the Fiat has a battery backup so even with a duff battery the alarm will still operate until its batteries die.

many thanks, much appreciated - i didn't realise the alarm had a battery back up. so maybe it's just a flat battery - though I still have no idea why that would set the alarm beeping!

yes - have turned off the alarm using the switch in the fuse box.

its probably in case someone tries to steal the car, and disconnects the battery to try and isable the alarm.
