Bravo 1.6SX -> 1.9JTD??

Hi y'all,

OK here's tha deal: I currently own a Bravo 1.6SX from august '99. I am thinking about changing to a Bravo 1.9JTD (from '99 or '00)... is this a good idea considering power and acceleration?? I know that a diesel will drive more mpg, and while I drive AT LEAST 600Km per week (sometimes 1000 or more) some guy at work told me to change to a diesel. And when driving at the highway last week, I was doing about 60Mph together with a black 1.9JTD (it was in front of me), when accelerating to 90Mph that f*@#$@&#*ng JTD just about blew me off the road eating his dust... and that when everyone is saying that a diesel is so very slow and sluggish??

So would changing to a diesel be a good idea or stick with the 1.6SX I have now (it drives very well I have to say that, I'm very pleased with it apart from getting fuel twice a week)...

how can i say this if driven right diesel can be dam fast !! and as for 1000km i think the diesel will save you in fuel cost but dont trash a JTD it will crack up !!

A short idea...

Hi,

i own a 1.9JTD GT and let me say: it's really a nice car. But you have to keep in mind some points:

A diesel (especially FIAT) is always louder and doesn't produce nice sound at all.

The car will (especially when it's cold) shiver like hell...

It's much more relaxed driving but there is no such fun like going a mountain road and never let the motor drop under 4500 rds/min...

I had a 6 cyl. before the JTD and it was VERY HARD to change. But after a while you will like the relaxed way of driving and miss the fun only a little bit.

Accel. is OK until 160km/h (approx. 100miles/hour), after that: forget it.


So, hope to help you making a decision. Basically you have to decide, if you want to have a more or less cheap car to drive relaxed (then take the diesel) or if you wanna have a lot of fun (then don't).

There is no arguement. Buy the diesel. They are not particularly noisy anymore and the JTD is a very good engine. It will feel a bit heavier at the front when cornering but you will be amazed by its performance. Go and get a test drive now!

which one?

The petrol is faster, but there isnt much in it. If i were buying one for the first time and did big miles, i'd be tempted by the JTD, but if you already have a 1999 bravo i wouldnt bother changing.

Go for it!

Go for the 105jtd. Ive had mine 2 yrs from new. The performance easily matches the petrol equivalent. Excellent torque at low and mid revs.
I dont find it particularly noisy either, and far less niggling faults than the petrol. I can honestly say its started 1st time every time.
Its converted me to diesels!
